Pan-Asian film and entertainment studio Through the Lens Entertainment has teamed up with horror brand Fangoria Studios to produce films based on This is Junji. The first three parts are adapted from the first and second parts of Ito’s “The Mystery of the Haunted Mansion”, as well as the previously exposed “Vampire Darkness”.
Armen Aghaeian, Tara Ansley and Abhi Goel serve as producers alongside Ito at Fangoria Studios. Amuse Group USA’s Yasu Kutami and Tsubasa Yamaguchi and Through the Lens’ Aditya Chand and Jay Van Hoy also serve as producers. Carlos Aguirre is an executive producer and also brokered the deal for the film.
Variety previously reported that Jeff Howard (resident Evil 2021 Series Co-Executive Producer, Hill House is Haunted Supervising Producer) is writing the script and serving as executive producer. Ito himself is a producer on the project. Film studio Fangoria Studios is producing the film. The site also previously reported that Phil Wurtzel is an executive producer for Friel Films. Kevin Nicklaus, Ryan Lewis and Joe Reilly are also listed as executive producers.
“The Blood-Sucking Darkness” is one of Ito’s many short comics. The story revolves around a girl named Nami who becomes obsessed with dieting and finds herself vomiting blood. She dreams of a bloody world and wakes up to find herself surrounded by blood. She meets a boy named Kazuya, who expresses concern about her diet and tries to get close to her. “The Mystery of the Haunted Mansion” tells the story of two friends who enter a haunted house. This story has a direct sequel, centered around the cousin of the main character from the original story. She ended up visiting the same haunted house.
