Netflix Announces Horror Short Film Vocal: Thriller is set to debut on the streaming service on Wednesday. The project is produced by Illumination and Universal Pictures from series director Garth Jennings and voice actors Matthew McConaughey (Buster Moon), Tori Kelly (Mina), Nick Kerr Rolle (Gunt), Scarlett Johansson (Ash), Taron Egerton (Johnny) and Jennings return.
Vocal: Thriller Buster (McConaughey) and his friends perform an elaborate rendition of Michael Jackson’s hit song “Thriller” at a Halloween party. Staff later realized that a mysterious ooze turned participants into dancing freaks.
The short film is based on the music video for the 1983 hit single “Thriller.” Rod Temperton wrote the music and lyrics for the songs on Jackson’s album of the same name, which remains the best-selling album of all time.
Vocal: Thriller Written and directed by Jennings and produced by Chris Meledandri. Dana Krupinski serves as executive producer and Nathalie Vancauwenberghe serves as co-producer.
original Sing Released in 2016 and grossing over $600 million worldwide, the film follows Buster as he attempts to save a struggling theater by organizing a singing competition. A sequel is coming in 2021.
Reese Witherspoon voiced Rosita the Pig in both films, but she’s one of the series cast members who won’t be returning in the new short.
