Now that we’ve explored the official Three Women series, the series delves into Gia’s backstory.
As Three Women Season 1 Episode 5 revealed, publishing her book about sex and relationships was harder than expected for Gia.
It’s Gia’s worst nightmare, she has to start from scratch and 200,000 words are thrown away.
Parts of Gia’s plot are repeated in previous “Three Women,” particularly when she meets mentor Guy Talese, who advises her to have sex with married people in the book.
This seems like a creepy idea. It also makes me wonder how much Lisa Taddeo goes through before she jumps in a van and drives across the country to meet her date.
After all, Gia’s story is based on her, and Gia’s storyline is very compelling. It makes sense that she would want to talk about other women’s love journeys.
Needing to start over and face her past
Besides Lena’s storyline, Gia’s is the most resonant. How many of us have ever wanted to jump in a van and drive across the country to fulfill some old dreams and create new memories?
This is difficult for Gia because attending the rodeo reminds her of her late father.
For the first time she allowed herself the freedom to sing on stage with local singers.
I also wondered if Gia might have been bisexual at the time, because she came to life when the singer touched her curls, called her beautiful, and reminded her to love herself.
Gia has been so busy advancing her career and proving herself to her dead parents that she’s forgotten to love herself.
She is also not good at communicating with others. That’s why her sex studies are so hard to get responses from, otherwise they’d want to share sordid family affairs.
Gia wants to shine a spotlight on women who, like her, have survived love and relationships.
Is Jack a guardian or a stalker?
While I believe Jack loves Gia, he has some near-stalker tendencies. It’s not that a one-night stand is bad, but he laughs at her for worrying about a condom getting stuck inside her body.
That scene was almost comical, but not now.
Although he encouraged her to reconcile with her past, he kept calling her, leaving messages and not giving her space.
Pretending to be a target so that Gia could meet him at the restaurant is nothing short of stalkerish. She sold her van because she finally thought her book had a clue.
I couldn’t believe another woman would help with this plan. This is not romantic. This is a violation of her rights.
Jack makes matters worse by suggesting that Gia is crazy and insisting that he only did it because he missed her. This sounds so stalkerish.
He only seems sincere when she admits she’s pregnant with his child, and his tone remains a little over the top when he discusses buying the baby store.
While Gia needs to be loved in her life, she also needs someone to respect her needs.
The child Gia never knew she wanted
Watching Gia’s arc is heartbreaking. She had never been very good at dealing with relationships, so she tried not to get attached to Jack.
That’s why the idea of her being pregnant terrifies her.
However, no one wants to lose a child, and the miscarriage scene seems cruel. Shailene Woodley was overcome with emotion as she collapsed on the motel bathroom floor.
This amount of blood may be upsetting to other women who have experienced miscarriage. Watching Gia break down, throw away the bloody sheets, and then leave again was so jarring.
That’s why it makes sense that she wouldn’t want anything to do with Jack after losing her baby. He was a little too eager, and she needed time to process and heal, whether she knew it or not.
Although Gia seems strong, she longs for love, and this baby can satisfy some of that need. She is a survivor.
This is another scene that would shock me, if it’s true, since Woodley often praised Lisa Taddeo’s strength in interviews on “3 Women.”
Gia and Lena’s special relationship
Lena is the first of three women linked to Gia. She liked Lena’s excitement when describing love, so she wanted to write about her.
As of Season 1, Episode 2 of 3 Women, Gia and Lena become close. The time jump between these three episodes is quite large.
Lena was the only person Gia told about her miscarriage. Gia tries to act strong, but the emotion comes out when Lena hugs her.
Gia never thought she’d want children, but she’s happy to have something of her own. Poor Gia. She felt like everything she loved was gone, but Lena was there.
Lina is a nurturer and she and Gia have similar interests. Shailene Woodley and Betty Gilpin are dynamite together. They act like they’ve been friends forever.
The series seemed to hint that there was more going on between the two when Gia took photos of Lena, and Lena agreed to let Gia write her story.
Will they end up being close friends or something else?
What do you think of Gia’s TV Fanatics? Did her miscarriage hit too close to home? Do you like her friendship with Lena?
We’d love to hear your thoughts, so please share them in the comments.
