Two new games based on the Halloween series were announced yesterday, with a pixel art platformer already released.
Yesterday, “Evil Dead: The Game” developer Boss Team Games announced that it is developing two games based on the Halloween series, one of which is developed using Unreal Engine 5 and even received help from the original film director John Carpenter. While still shrouded in mystery, one of the two games has more details, except for the second game, which was revealed today at IGN and turns out to be a 16-bit 90s arcade platformer. The game, called “RetroRealms: Halloween,” puts you in the role of the infamous Michael Myers, slashing around and slashing anyone in your path with the character’s trusty knife.

This isn’t the only game announced by Boss Team Games either, as the RetroRealms brand is covering a second game, also a 16-bit pixel art platformer, once again based on Evil Dead. Ash Williams once again puts down his chainsaw hand to fight the undead and the like – it basically looks like the same game, albeit with a different setting, and stars Michael Myers and Ash plays slightly differently. It’s also worth noting that Shantae series developer WayForward is helping develop the game, so it seems to be in good hands.

You can buy both games individually for $24.99 each, or in a dual-feature bundle for $49.99. Technically, purchasing the bundle is a penny more expensive, but doing so will allow you to play as any character in their respective games. Pre-ordering the game also lets you play as Laurie Strode from Halloween and Kelly Maxwell from Ash vs Evil Dead as bonus DLC Role.
“Everyone at Boss Team Games is a huge fan of horror games, and being able to work with these legendary titles is a dream come true,” Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris said in a press release. “Working with WayForward and our licensees to create Featuring two fast-paced 90s arcade-style games while staying true to the original Halloween movie and the Ash vs. Evil Dead series, it’s an amazing experience that fans can experience with the trailer released today. Packed with bloody gameplay and fast-paced action, we can’t wait to show you more!
They’ve also set a season-appropriate release date, with both games releasing on October 18th and available to play on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox.
