The best comics to buy this week, January 22nd, are certainly a list of new books, but the common theme, if there is one, is a nod to the past. we have Godzilla Monster Theater #3, this became the great gatsby Enter a fierce battle between monsters and monsters. We have a new installment of Silver Age Tribute, Transformers. we have to Ultimate Spider-Man #13a tribute to Kraven’s Last Hunt, we get Time is waiting #3a true book about traveling back in time.
I certainly didn’t plan it this way – as usual, these are just my five favorites out of the 20+ new comics I read this week (Sicko hahaha, yes the meme is here) – but it’s fun to line it up this way . There had to be something in the air to do wacky new things with beloved novels, arcs, and eras. Additionally, on the trade front this week is a landmark launch event, Mike Mignola latest, Bowling with corpses and other strange stories from places unknown. Check Rhythmic Learn more about the book in the comments section on Thursday.
Anyway, as always, all the regular checklist is below…enjoy!
The most worth buying comics on January 22, 2025
Godzilla Monster Theater #3
Writer/Artist/Writer: Tom Shorey
Publisher: IDW Press
Even with the combined efforts of Jay Gatsby, Sherlock Holmes, Jules Verne, and the Time Machine Man, Godzilla’s global rampage shows no signs of slowing down. This leaves our gang with no choice but to seek help from the terrifying and evil Dracula himself! The thrilling finale of Godzilla Monster Theater features a showdown between Godzilla and vampires. Will our heroes (and villains) win? Will the boat go against the current? Will saving Daisy finally be enough to change Gatsby’s fate and unlock the stars for the lovers?
Why it’s cool: If you enjoyed the first two issues of this book (like I did), I’m sure you’ll love the end of Tom Scioley’s wild love letter to turn-of-the-19th-century fiction. I mean, just look at the cover – it’s a wild cover, pitting Godzilla against the most famous monster in literature. Of course, the Gadsey-Daisy-Tom triangle also reaches its zenith, albeit in a much different way than in perhaps the greatest American novel, complete with time travel and monsters and all. sigh. I’m going to miss writing this comic.

Transformers: Elemental Men #2
writer: Al Ewing
artist: Steve Deere
Colorist: Lee Loveridge
Writer: Ferran Delgado
Publisher: DC Comics
Who can win the heart of the most fabulous monster? There’s only one more exciting thing…the Sapphire Stagg turned on! But as Metamorpho and Element Gal step into the spotlight alongside superstar Sapphire, they find themselves caught in the crossfire of a deadly rival vying for her cultural crown—a rival driven by a malevolent… Mad Mod Deceived! But what does Ol’ Staggsy have to do with crime’s coolest cat…?
Why it’s cool: It’s been a long time since a comic was so thoroughly committed to its characters. This book is essentially like the Silver Age, with dense paneling and scripting, but somehow it’s bolder than the vast majority of other superhero comics being published now. It’s really amazing. I don’t want to say too much because I’m also writing this comic for tomorrow’s DC Round-Up column. In conclusion, I highly recommend this product.

Time is waiting #3
writer: Chip Zdarski and Brother David
artist: Marcus To and Marvin Sinipal

Publisher: DSTLRY
Captured by EonCo, Blue faces execution – alone, except for a gloating Wyatt, who is finally about to exact his revenge. As his motion sickness worsens, Blue really needs a friend – but how can he have allies when time destroys them all?
Why it’s cool: This marks the last issue Time to wait, A truly suspenseful and action-packed time travel heist story that works in part because the character relationships are so rich. I didn’t think I would be so moved by this love story, but I did, and it’s great. Full review tomorrow wednesday comics Pillar.

The Sinister Six are all hunting Spider-Man and the Green Goblin for their leader, Kingpin – and this time, Kraven is in “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” written by Jonathan Hickman and Marco Cecchetto. Love letters prevail!
Why it’s cool: Jonathan Hickman, Marco Checchetto, and more have built a fantastic new framework for telling Spider-Man stories… and this week they’re using it to explore the best Spider-Man of my life chivalrous story, Kraven’s last hunt. i am a person Very Excited.

Void Rival #16
writer: Robert Kirkman
artist: Lorenzo de Felici
Colorist: Patricio Delpesh
Writer: Ross Wootton
Publisher: Picture Comics – Skybound
Skuxxoid VS Pythona! The fight you didn’t know you wanted!
Why it’s cool: This is the most interesting question to me Void opponent Since the book came out and surprisingly revealed a new Transformers – G.I. Joe shared universe. How these three properties will relate to each other has been a mystery, and Void opponent It seems to be somewhere in the middle. This issue has been made very clear. Also, the battle is super cool.
