Bandai Namco will release a Tamagotchi original next year that not only looks like an egg, but actually contains recycled eggshells. That’s not all. The device’s packaging, which features the 1990s show when it launches on February 5, 2025, will be made from recycled paper.
$30
According to the product description, the celebratory egg version of Tamagotchi’s original version will be an Amazon exclusive and is designed to “highlight love for the planet.” The device costs $30 and seats seven adults.
Earlier this year, Tamagotchi Connection relaunched to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The device is an evolution of the original Tamagotchi that allows owners to connect with each other. Players can even get their digital pets married, so this earth-friendly Tamagotchi original isn’t the first time Bandai Namco has tapped into nostalgia.
But Bandai Namco has also launched a new line of Tamagotchis. Tamagotchi Uni was launched last year with online connectivity. It also comes with a wrist strap, making the device similar to a watch.
Tamagotchi was originally released in Japan in 1996 and later in the United States in 1997.
