Three years on, and after a few bumps in the road, Halo Infinite is looking to mix things up a bit with…well, third-person mode!
Every first-person and third-person shooter has their own preferences (when will anyone ever make a second-person shooter?), but no one can deny that the defining way to experience Halo is in first-person. It’s impossible to do without mods anyway, but it doesn’t look like Halo until you’re staring down the barrel of its well-designed sci-fi weapon. Anyway, 343 Industries just announced this week that the game will be getting a third-person mode! Yes, seriously, I’m not kidding, look, there’s even a short trailer below that you can watch on the official Halo Twitter account, proving that it’s real.

Look, I feel bad about it too, but I can only assume someone somewhere wanted this, so 343 Industries gave it to us (let’s ignore that it’s entirely possible an executive said they wanted it in the game ’s third-person mode because they want to sell skins better like Fortnite). The footage does come with a note saying it’s a work in progress, but for the most part it looks completely functional, and it looks like you can switch between third and first person depending on the weapon, so This is very convenient.

Reactions in the replies seemed pretty mixed, with some expressing excitement and others expressing frustration — well, Walmart Canada Games chimed in, because I guess that’s what brands have to do these days.
Considering it didn’t even appear at the company’s summer showcase this year, and with the Paramount+ TV show being canceled in July, it doesn’t seem like Halo Infinite is a priority for Microsoft at the moment, and it wouldn’t normally appear now. Not a good time to be a Halo fan.
