The film, based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, hit a milestone Wednesday, grossing $68.9 million domestically and $46.6 million abroad for a global total of $115.5 million. (The film, starring Blake Lively, was released in select overseas markets for a day or two before opening across North America on Friday, August 9.)
Produced by Sony and Wayfarer Studios, the summer film debuted domestically over the weekend of August 9-11 and exceeded all expectations, grossing $50 million at the box office. The R-rated film also impressed overseas, taking in $30 million in its first 42 markets against a $25 million budget, for a global debut of $80 million.

All eyes are focused on how It all ends with us will be performed the second weekend. It faced little competition in female-skewed fare and had excellent audience scores. Sony insiders are cautious about suggestions of $22 million to $24 million, but others think it could be in the mid-to-high range of $20 million.
There’s also an ongoing social media firestorm over Lively, Hoover and other actors conspicuously not being photographed with Baldoni at the New York premiere (they also unfollowed him on Instagram). There were reports that rifts arose during production due to creative differences between Lively and Baldoni, as well as accusations that he alienated Lively and others on the set over certain comments. So far, neither party has commented, although Baldoni has hired PR crisis communications director Melissa Nathan.
When users on social media accused Lively of not taking the film’s domestic violence themes seriously enough, even Sony executives joined in supporting Lively, despite her frequent press conferences about it.
