If standing for hours on end playing a VR game is too difficult, you’ll eventually want to move to a chair because the couch is a little too stationary. If you’ve ever played a game with a VR headset from the comfort of your swivel chair, you know flint and steel You need to make a spinning motion with your feet. this Roto VR Explorer Gaming chairs eliminate all extra effort with a fully electric base that has no extra bulk. However, this is a device that makes me feel VR dizzy just looking at it.

The Roto VR Explorer essentially acts as an all-in-one workstation for the headset, specifically Meta task 3. In order for the chair to spin on its own, you wear a device that looks like a hockey puck on top of the Quest’s headband to track when you turn your head. There’s also a haptic motor that runs through the seat and back to provide some force feedback while gaming. For longer meetings, you can run the Quest’s power cord through the chair and give it extra power.

The Roto chair enters the realm of expensive, highly specific sports peripherals, e.g. omnidirectional treadmill and Other devices with concave, low-friction surfaces for walking on. Some researchers have also tried Foot feeling mats and motor shoes Provides a sense of movement without moving.

We’ve yet to see a sedentary setting better suited to the Quest’s design than the Roto VR. The Explorer has a round bracket and two pegs to hold your foot in place. The chair is electric and claims it can spin up to 21 revolutions per second, which sounds like the worst carnival ride of your life. In order to rotate your body, you need a “rotating head tracker” attached to the top of the Quest’s headband. The chair is also compatible with “full-seat” VR experiences, according to the company.

It might not be the most comfortable setup, although the company says it’s working on a “Pro” version with adjustable armrests and back-of-head padding. This is said to be supposed to add more tactile sensation to your spine, although we’d love to know if it’s capable Other tactile pads We have used products from companies like Razer.

The large size means you won’t be placing it next to your computer desk as your go-to gaming chair. A trailer for the chair shows a group of friends or family surrounding the headset wearer trapped in the center of the room, like a monkey standing in the middle of the virtual world. If you’ve ever watched someone play in VR, you probably know that it can get boring and isolating quickly. Ultimately, this chair is designed for single gamers who don’t want to stand up while playing VR games.

Roto VR claims it’s compatible with more than 400 games in the Meta Quest store, but the company didn’t respond to our questions about whether it would be compatible with other headsets or even answer our questions. Apple Vision Pro.

The chair is available for pre-order now, but it’ll still cost you a full $800 on top of the $500 you’ve already purchased for the Meta Quest 3. Roto VR plans to show off its chair at Gamescom starting on August 21st, and if you happen to be in Cologne, Germany, you can actually give it a try.
