When I started discussing Kay Sohini Wonderful new graphic memoirs, This beautiful, ridiculous cityI think it’s important to reveal something about me – I’m currently trying to move to New York City. Usually, I don’t like to reveal any information about myself in the comments, and certainly it’s not correct. But I feel like I have to be here to discuss my experience effectively This beautiful, ridiculous citybecause most of this book is about Sohini doing the exact thing I want to do myself now.
I say “most of this book” because it’s a story that makes the experience of moving to downtown New York be spinning outwards throughout Sohini’s life to become many other things. It’s a book about family, food, abusive relationships, immigration, and even more important than anything else. It’s also a book about other things, and I think one of the beautiful qualities of this work is that different readers may list what the story means to them. There’s a lot here, all built on the basis of honest, clever and heartfelt graphic memoirs, which is a pleasure.
One can feel that decisions surrounding the included content are patient and thoughtful, just like stunning, clean artworks that convey the feeling in several creative ways, from precise cityscapes to ethereal and bright sequences. This book is coherent because the writing of sentences at the sentence level is very strong. But, then, there is also a lot of diversity and surprises on its page turns. Sohini is a thoughtful and fearless storyteller whose works are poetry and can reveal a wide range with relevant details. it works.
This beautiful, ridiculous city Again, I should note that when I start to end here, idols about Sohini who live a literary life, dreams of creating art, and understand that she does the same thing, especially those closely related to New York City. Going back to my personal revelation from the start (I wasn’t very unhappy about it to be honest), I’ve long been fascinated by New York as a literary hub for a long time many Literary figures can connect with the city, especially with the energy and community brought by writers. Moving to New York is hard – the book is also representative – but doing so also has great appeal and obvious romanticism. I found Sohini’s book not only related, but also inspiring and calm. It’s a New York City story to be sure (which is right in a great title), but it’s not just a story about taking big moves and taking risks to make yourself better, pushing yourself, pushing yourself and growing into the people you’ve always wanted to be.
