As we prepare for The Witcher’s highly anticipated return to Netflix for season 4, we’re keeping track of which characters will be returning and which ones will be new.
The Witcher Season 4 cast and character guide will keep you up to date on all the latest news about the series ahead of its release in 2025 or 2026.
Fans will see the return of some of their favorite characters as well as some new additions to the roster.
We even received news about a casting change for The Witcher protagonist Geralt of Rivia. Read all about The Witcher Season 4 and the characters you’ll see.
The Witcher Season 4 Cast and Characters Guide
The Witcher is coming to an end with its fifth season, based on the last three books in the series by Andrzej Sapkowski: Baptism of Fire, The Shallow Tower and The Lake “Ms.”
The only major characters returning from Season 4 are Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer and Jaskier. This leaves plenty of room for new characters to bring the books to life.
But we’ll also see a lot of smaller characters and cast members returning from previous seasons, including:
- Triss (played by Anna Shaffer)
- Francesca (Mecia Simson)
- Fringilla (I am the one)
- Cahill (Eamon Fallon)
- Dara (Wilson Mbomio)
- Philippa (played by Cassie Clare)
- Easterred (played by Royce Pearson)
- Sabrina Gravesig (Celica Wilson-Reed)
- Vilgeforz (played by Mahesh Jadu)
Characters who appeared and will return in Season 3 include Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards), Milva (Menger Zhang), and Radovid (Hugh Skinner).
While we’ll see returning characters, that doesn’t mean we’ll see the same actors. Fans have had to adjust to Geralt’s new face since Henry Cavill left at the end of season three.
These days, it’s more common to see a character killed off than replaced by a new actor. But when you’re talking about book adaptations, it’s more difficult to execute that formula, resulting in more than one actor playing one character.
Until The Witcher season 4 hits Netflix, read on for the show’s full cast and character list.

Geralt of Rivia (Lien Hemsworth)
Henry Cavill played Geralt in the first three seasons of The Witcher.
But he announced that he would be exiting the show in 2022 while it is still on the air, leaving the role for a new actor.
At the time, Cavill believed he would reprise his role as Superman.
However, after James Gunn and Peter Safran reimagined the DC Universe, another celebrity took over with Man of Steel, leaving Cavill to take on other roles.
Australian actor Liam Hemsworth will make his debut in the final two seasons of The Witcher, playing the mainland white wolf.
Hemsworth will be seen on TV screens after his recent roles in The Hunger Games and Independence Day Resurgence.
Princess Cirilla (played by Freya Allen)
The name Princess Cirilla of Cintra is difficult to pronounce, so it’s no surprise that people often refer to her simply as Ciri. We see untapped potential from the beginning, even if she doesn’t realize how powerful or important she is to the elves as a child of elder blood.
After the Nilfgaardians overran her country, Yennefer and Geralt embraced Ciri to protect her. Once she goes missing, their purpose becomes rescuing her.
We’ll get to see this adventure when Season 4 returns. Youth and inexperience shape Ciri’s magical journey, where self-doubt is as important as determination.
But as she explores her magical potential amid the struggles of growing up, she becomes stronger and more experienced with each season.
We expect The Witcher Season 4 to follow the layout of the third book of Baptism of Fire, in which Ciri forms an alliance with a dangerous gang called the Rats. She will change her name to Falka.
While Ellen has had a few small roles since joining the cast in 2017, playing Ciri was the breakout role she needed to find herself. She also helmed War for the Planet of the Apes, which is currently streaming on Hulu.
Yennefer (played by Anya Chalotra)
As an adult, Yennefer is a respected badass witch who transcends her neglected childhood to become a better parent to magical creatures.
However, she experienced a difficult childhood with troubled parents and physical disabilities before enrolling in a prestigious magic school and discovering her immense abilities.
Yennefer learned her trade in Aretuza from Tissaia de Vries, the headmistress who later became Yennefer’s mother.
During her formative years, she spent all her time working with magic until she met her true love, Geralt.
When she and Geralt met Ciri, she accepted motherhood.
She’s focused on keeping the girls safe, and season four will follow Yennefer’s quest to save Ciri from both herself and outside dangers.
She also must recover from the emotional turmoil left behind after her mother Tishaia committed suicide at the end of season three.
Actress Anya Chalotra had a short career, but she appeared in Doctor Who: The Time War, Wanderlust, Sherwood, The Code, and all the episodes of The Witcher Played some great roles.
Buttercup (played by Joey Betty)
Jaskier is Geralt’s loyal companion and follows him on his adventures.
Initially, Geralt didn’t want the company, but Jaskier was more insistent than a librarian with an overdue library book to find. Their frequent contact and occasional life and death situations turn a friendship into a chosen family.
Jaskier has a close relationship with Geralt, and he considers Ciri family and declares himself her uncle and protector. I
In addition to being a friend turned family member, Jaskier also has a second identity: Sandpiper, a friend to the refugee elves who need his help during the war.
Jaskier’s sunny demeanor makes him the perfect travel companion, while his street smarts allow him to help when needed.
Sources suggest that The Witcher season 4 will focus more on Jaskier’s love life and provide him with a proper love interest to further the character’s development.
You may have seen Joey Betty in The White Queen, CB Strike, and Knightfall. Betty also appeared in the prequel series The Witcher: Bloodborne.
Regis (played by Laurence Fishburne)
It’s impossible not to get excited when an actor of Fishburne’s caliber is announced to be joining the series.
Laurence will appear in the show as a barber-slash-surgeon who will accompany Geralt on his journey.
His character has deep secrets and a mysterious past, but we know nothing about it.
I don’t have the space or power to discuss Fishburne’s extensive talents, but do we really need to introduce Morpheus (The Matrix) to you fanboys?
Okay, okay.
He has also appeared in John Wick, Black-ish, Coming of Age, the Hannibal series, DCMU, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (the original), several superhero movies, and me My favorite is Akira and the Bee.
Bonhart (played by Sharlto Copley)
Sharlto Copley will make his debut as bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, a popular character from the books.
This is a mysterious character, and as we discover more, we’ll update this page with what we learn.
The Witcher isn’t Copley’s only recent role in 2024.
Other roles include Boy Kills World, Gringo, Powers, Maleficent, and my favorite as Murdoch in The Boys.
Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen)
We met Stregobor in The Witcher season 1, when he tried to use Geralt to get rid of Renfri.
A wizard who had used too much dark magic, he had fallen beyond redemption.
He is also Istredd’s teacher and plays an important role in the Brotherhood of Magicians.
Due to his penchant for dark magic and evil, he becomes the source of constant conflict between good and evil between Yennefer and Geralt.
Actor Lars Mikkelsen (brother of Mads Mikkelsen) plays the villain The Witcher in The Witcher, but that’s not his only big role.
You’ve also seen him in House of Cards and Sherlock, as well as several Danish projects.
Skellen (played by James Beaufoy)
Skellen is Emhyr’s palace advisor and top spy. As of now, his role in seasons four and five is unclear.
Purefoy has starred in TV series such as Quest for Witches, Roma, Hap & Leonard, Sex Education and Replicas.
For feature films, he started with films like “A Knight’s Tale” and “Mansfield Park.”
We’ve also heard his voice in animated productions such as Trollhunters: Legends of Arcadia.
Zoltan (played by Danny Woodburn)
Zoltan is a dwarf who is very close to Geralt in the video games, but not in the book series.
His role as the wizard’s trusted friend in the upcoming fourth season combines the nuances of the video game with Zoltan’s role as Yapen’s successor from the books.
Many people know Danny Woodburn from his role as Mickey on Seinfeld.
But you also found his talents on other shows like One Tree Hill, Bones, Baywatch, CSI, and Murder, She Wrote, to name a few.
He is also known for his roles in Watchmen and Mirror Mirror.
