Yeah, The Wiggles are ready to rock again! The 100-album band has released a rock-country indie single after announcing a tour next summer. “Big Ret Ute” celebrates life on the open road and is an ode to the band’s beloved song “Big Red Car.”
Pronounced as “jute,” the song encourages passenger safety behaviors such as wearing seat belts, enjoying the rumble of the engine and using power windows. The single combines upbeat melodies and playful lyrics with elements of pop, rock and country music.
For the first time in its 30-year history, the band ditched the big red car in favor of a shiny new sport-utility vehicle. This time no one was asleep in the back seat: “‘Big Red Ute’ is a fun homage to our original ‘Big Red Car,'” says Anthony Field, the band’s original Blue Wiggle. “Young people have a beautiful way of being fascinated by the simplest things. A child might hear the hum of an engine or see a car window go up, and all of a sudden, it’s magical. Big Red Ute celebrates the little wonders that kids notice—the things that we adults sometimes take for granted. The best part? This is a song that families can sing and dance to.
In the band’s new music video, the members take turns driving, with breaks for line dancing, hat tipping and clapping. The group boldly took their beloved red pickup truck – which appears to be a 2023 Toyota HiLux Rogue – off-road! “Big Red Ute” is now available on streaming platforms and for download.
