
The U.S. Mint has partnered with DC owner Warner Bros Discovery to imprint superhero graphics on the 24-karat commemorative gold coin. “Batman,” “Superman” and “Wonder Woman” will be the first to receive this treatment in the summer of 2025, and another six films will be determined through online surveys for release in 2026 and 2027. You can pay slightly less for expensive silver and common metal (collectible) coins.
The online survey, which will run until August 11, asks fans to gauge their interest in 12 pre-selected characters for the remaining six DC coins. In alphabetical order, these characters are: Aquaman, Batgirl, Black Canary, Blue Beetle (Jamie Reyes), Cyborg, The Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern (John Stewart) , Hawkman, Robin, Supergirl and Shazam. There doesn’t seem to be a framework for providing alternative suggestions – sorry Booster Gold fans.

The announcement and coin release schedule comes on the occasion of DC’s 90th anniversary as a comics publisher. The company was founded in 1934 as National Comics Publications and published its first comic book New fun: large comic magazines Released in 1935.
The partnership was announced in a press release on July 10:

This unprecedented initiative marks the Mint’s first public-private partnership of this scale.
“The Mint has a long tradition of producing coins and medals that pay tribute to American values, icons and significant moments. This historic alliance of DC Super Heroes continues that tradition and recognizes the role comic book art plays in reinforcing American ideals. the role played.

While PR claims that comic books are a “uniquely American art form” are rather dubious, you can’t question the power of American superheroes in the zeitgeist. One hopes that these coins will at least be credited to the character creator in some way in the final version.
The coin’s obverse will be designed by the U.S. Mint’s Chief Engraver Joseph Mennafeatures a private portfolio that includes pieces from DC Collectibles; the reverse will be designed by one of the Mint’s own medal artists under Menna’s supervision and direction.
Menna said of the collaboration:
