In today’s rapidly changing comics industry, there are two universal truths. First of all Dog man It is the definition of our era. The second is that more people are reading comics and web images (also known as vertical scroll comics) than ever before. So we are back to the weird adventure of beats at the comics festival. Every week, we have three writers recommending some of our favorite books and series from Japan, Korea and elsewhere. This week we have evil classmates, cyberpunk and of course romance! What, do you think February is over and romance is dead? I don’t think so, Buster.
Sae Maki’s Love and Creed (Sae-ism)

Sae-ism Follow high school alumnus Misao to meet and become Sae, the most popular girl in the new school. Her new friendship with SAE can protect her from bullying. But Sae has a dark side. This is a fascinating series that deals with very real issues such as bullying and emotional and physical violence. But it does so in a quirky environment compared to the more severe skin crawling moments.
To me, this is genius Sae-ism: The stranger the scenes on top, comedy and even super violent, making the dark moments that are primitive, deprived of humanity even more unbearable. Sae’s mastery of Misao and Misao’s fear of standing up are very human elements that give the series weight.
Of course, this story traps the huge left-field swing into a supernatural scene I didn’t expect. But the actors of the characters are pinning these ideas in some way, which makes them more likely to endure and accept part of the story. As I move forward, I find myself more interested in what is revealed and it all combines until the end.
In four volumes, the story does end, and the last book even ends with the word “series complete.” But I recently learned that eleven books have been published in Japan rather than here, and combined with the current fifteen volumes. We only have four. I don’t know how the series continues, I don’t know if Akita Publishing just canceled the version in the US, but I need them to backup. So please read. very good. – Derrick Crow
Future agents
Writer/Artist: The pilot is obvious
platform: Webtoon, snack
Webcomics are my bread and butter; stories from all genres are told in original, unrestricted form. Today’s story is Future agentsnetwork channel The pilot is obvious For young people who have been published in 2022, this is a sci-fi thriller centered on 16-year-old Maddie Cinder who fell into a world of cybercrime and physical after a chance encounter with a future agent.
The art and works of the art described in the panel are cinematic and moody. Large rectangular panels replace film cameras; character positioning makes each panel resemble a storyboard or a still frame. Many compositions are rare throughout the comics, both intentional and unexpected goals of the artist. The pilot clearly makes the background and character cautious and focused. Honestly, I was surprised that they were able to launch weekly episodes since their publication, although this timeline has changed.
Art also draws inspiration from anime, especially from the 90s to 00s, and draws on the drawing of the eyes and the realistic proportions of humans to characters who abide by reality. The pilots obviously use simple apartments with cell shadows and occasional rim lighting to add extra depth, then cleverly use color corrections to blend art with landscape and lighting as much as possible.
Sometimes, for comedy effects, it is often switched to the artistic style of Chibi, or a dependence on the character’s body and facial expressions to work with a brief transition of tone and mood. The background is mainly edited photos or 3D models, but has been carefully integrated into the art, so there is little obvious 3D. It is also possible to work with the theme of cybercrime using digital effects, and the sci-fi atmosphere is obvious, so it is obvious.
In terms of the story, Future agents Follow Maddie’s journey from the comfort of ordinary life to the darker reality that has always existed in the background. It didn’t ruin it, it reminded me of some plots Ghost in the shell: Independent Complex. I could stroll a little more, but only know that this is a story I’ve been reading for years, and in today’s weird adventure, it’s worth paying attention to.
So if a dark and gritty thriller about a female student joins a cybercrime combat agency that boasts amazing art, cinematic atmosphere and occasional meta-essays at the end of each episode sound like your coffee, you can give Future agents Read now on Webtoon Canvas and Tapas. You can also support pilots on Patreon, or view additional information on the comic’s official website. Until next time, my adorable Birb nerd! – Justin Guerrero
