One of the biggest differences between Ring of Power and the Lord of the Rings trilogy is that Sauron (Charlie Vickers) is at the forefront of the Prime Video show’s story. In Season 1, Sauron hid in plain sight as Harbrand, and now, in Season 2, he will unleash his evil agenda. In addition, season 2 will also give viewers a glimpse into how Sauron became the dark lord of Middle-earth.
IGN said that the second season of “Ring of Power” will go back 1,000 years to the fall of Morgoth, the original dark lord in JRR Tolkien’s fantasy world. In these scenes, young Sauron will be played by Jack Lowden, and the show will kick off the beginning of his rivalry with season one’s main villain A’dar (Sam Hazeldine). The reason he wasn’t recognized from Sauron in season 1 is because he had a different face when they first met.
The above clip shows off a young Sauron, but also establishes that the Dark Lord will be spending a lot of time this season in his new role: Annatar, Lord of Gifts. This is another key part of Tolkien’s mythology, as Sauron would not have been able to create a ring or other rings of power without the help of the elf blacksmith Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards). Even the Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War video games touch on the history of these two characters.
Prime Video will premiere the first two episodes of the second season of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power on August 29. You waited too long. The animated film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” will be released in theaters on December 13.
