The latest trailer for Sony’s latest Spider-Man-less Spider-Man movie, Kraven the Hunter, is here, and it features plenty of blood and a bit of, uh, rhino.
Of all the characters and their respective villains that Sony could buy, Spider-Man might be the best of them all, especially if it gets the rights. Since then, we’ve seen a bunch of different interpretations of the character, but now that the current incarnation has been relegated to Disney’s Marvel Universe, Sony has been trying to figure out what to do with the other characters it owns. Its most successful so far in terms of live-action has been the Venom movies, which were downright stupid and trashy, but hey, I’m still excited for Venom 3. It doesn’t matter what a surprise it is. However, along the way, someone thought it would be a good idea to make a movie about Spider-Man’s other villain Kraven, and its latest trailer was just released today.

As you can see above, Kraven looks to be a particularly violent presence – I doubt we’ll see the old Spider-Man in this game, even as a cameo. The trailer features heavily violent, dramatic footage of Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s brutal murder, set to a film version of Johnny Cash’s “The Man Comes Out.” Oh, and there’s also a guy who had his arm ripped off by a wolf, so if you’re not into that kind of thing, maybe stay away from this guy. Perhaps worse, it looks like Kraven’s opponent in this movie will be another Spider-Man villain, Rhino, and this time he looks particularly computer-generated.

Aside from “Venom,” Sony’s “Not So Spider-Man” live-action movies haven’t had much success. Morbius was a disaster, and somehow this year’s Mrs. Weber is even worse than that. Kraven the Hunter will be released later this year on December 13, so if it fails, it will be Sony’s second Spider-Man-less movie to fail this year. Venom 3 will be released a few months early on October 25th, so maybe at least one of the three films will do well.
