HBO released the first trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 today, but don’t expect too much dialogue!
But the dialogue you get is powerful.
Even better, it comes from newcomer Catherine O’Hara, who plays an undisclosed role and appears to be working with Joel (Pedro Pascal) to piece together the past and heal old wounds.
To do this, Joel will have to look back on his first five years with Ellie as they come to terms with what they’ve done and survive together.
Here’s the official synopsis for the eight-time Emmy winner’s second season:
After the events of Season 1, and five years of peace, Joel and Ellie’s shared past catches up with them, bringing them into conflict with each other and into a world more dangerous and unforgivable than the one they left behind. A world of predictions.
While this will all be new to audiences, gamers will once again see the stories they played in The Last of Us Part II come to life.
I have good evidence that the trailer bears a striking resemblance to the game.
We’ve discussed in the past whether staying close to the source material is a good thing, but my good authority says, “While 99% of the trailer is lifted from the game… it looks better than Season 1.” “
Coming from a voice we trust, this is exciting news for fans of the game and series.
Non-gamers like me, who have a brain like a sieve and forget about the casting notice after watching it once, and haven’t read a single article before watching the trailer, may be confused by the time jump.
OK Maybe it’s just me.
But what confuses me is that Bella Ramsay seems to have been left behind with the aging process and I thought Katilyn Deaver was playing the SORAS version.
It turns out that Deaver is playing a new villain named Abby, who may or may not look similar to the character players know.
The clip also gives us our first look at Jeffrey Wright as Isaac, the leader of the Washington Liberation Organization (the Seattle faction).
This is his first appearance in The Last of Us Part II, so we’re really looking forward to it.
Returning cast members include Gabriel Luna, who will play Joel’s brother Tommy, and Rutina Wesley, who will play Tommy’s wife Maria.
Other new cast members include Isabella Merced as Dina, Jan Mazzino as Jesse, Ariela Barrell as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Danny Ramirez as Manny.
Here’s the trailer!
The only bad news is that The Last of Us Season 2 won’t premiere until 2025.
Thankfully, fall TV slate is here to keep us busy until then.
So, how excited are you for the new season?
