Director Jonathan Bolerjack announces $300,000 Stan Lee’s Kickstarter event: The final chapter has been cancelled. The film is taken from a video taken by Bolerjack in Lee’s final years as a guest of the conference and promises to show the dark side of those around him.
The sport raised more than $84,000 but sparked heated controversy, with many questioning the role of the campaign, the rewards layer and Bolerjack encountering senior abuse in Stan’s final days.
The film will still be finished and seen, however, Bolerjack wrote:
The project has received a lot of news, social media and global attention. Thanks to some recent developments, we will end Kickstarter today and we will promote the production of this film with generous external support. We will re-production in the next few weeks and our plan is to pack everything as soon as possible. As we progress, we will be regularly updated via social media releases.
Bolerjack was part of Stan’s entourage for his last few years and has been shooting footage for a planned film – though not the movie. He said over time he was shocked by the way Stan was treated and wanted to let the film show who was responsible. He insisted on recording and launched Kickstarter last month. Many of the comments about Kickstarter are very important, and despite Bolerjack’s several media appearances to give him the project never came to track.
As I have written before, I personally don’t want to see the sad scenes of senior Stan from signing to signing. That said, I’ve talked to people I trust, who are close to Stan, who do support the project and believe Bolerjack is the one who searched for him in his later years. The film finds independent funding to be completed, perhaps the best result for the moment.
