
Back in 2022, Max, Cartoon Network and Lion Forge Animation announced adaptation plans Great: Ward’s kids, A famous graphic novel series created by Nigerian film producers Roye Okupe,,,,, Animation. Back in October, the first trailer unveiled its spring 2025 release. Officially announced today Great: The guardian kid The animated series will premiere on Cartoon Network on Saturday, April 5 at 9:30 a.m. ET and premiere on Max the next day.

Adapted from the graphic novel series by Roye Okupe Great: The guardian kid– Published by Youneek Studios and Dark Horse Comics (The Powerful Country Behind Umbrella Academy and Hellboy) – The show is hosted by Roye Okupe himself, born and raised in Nigeria and is now a creator, executive producer and performer. The series was produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, the leading black animation studio in North America.
The animated series draws on Nigerian culture, music and mythology, following Iyanu, a brave young orphan living in the magical kingdom of Yorubaran. While studying history and ancient art, she longs for a normal life–until the looming threat awakens a deity that has never been seen since the legendary era. Accompanied by newly discovered friends Biyi, Toye and a magical leopard named Ekun, Iyanu begins to reveal the roots of this evil and in the process removes her fate.

Previously announced streaming partner Showmax has set a June 13 release date when “Iyanu” will be available throughout the season in 44 African countries. Recently announced partner ITVX will also be broadcasting the series this summer in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
The executive producer of the show is David Steward II, Stephanie Sperber, Kirsten Newlands and Matt Heath Roye Okupe from Lion Forge Entertainment, Youneek Studios, Erica Dupuis Influence X Capital, Ryan Haidarian Superprod’s Foreffort Media Group and Doug Schwalbe.
