MUBI releases first full trailer substanceThe upcoming sci-fi/body horror film starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid is said to have received between nine and 13 minutes of standing ovations at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Take a look:
Directed by Coralie Farget, substance Demi Moore stars as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former host of an aerobics show who is fired on her 50th birthday. However, a mysterious laboratory offers her a neon green anti-aging serum, offering her the chance to become a “younger, more beautiful, more perfect” version of herself.
Now, everyone who has seen wasp, leech woman Even Halle Berry’s catwoman It’s known that there will be some sort of mutated catch, but exactly what it will look like is sold as the film’s central mystery. Moore’s character naturally imbues herself with the magical “substance” of the title, and she transforms into a lookalike but younger Margaret Qualley. Once she resumed hosting duties on the morning aerobics show, Sparkle-Moore and Sparkle-Queley seemed to have some trouble balancing their share of “Seven Days” physical time. As Moore says in the trailer, “mild abuse” of the substance will apparently cause paranoia, loss of impulse control, the formation of multiple irises, and things growing out of her back that don’t look like they should be there.
While we don’t yet know if Sparkle will turn into a monster, an unseen representative of “matter” warns her, “The only thing not to forget is: you are a monster. You can’t escape yourself. So, what do you think?” Will she mutate into an incredible hybrid of Maul’s and Cooley’s attributes, and will Cooley erupt from under the skin of Maul’s body like a werewolf shedding his skin? The trailer includes footage of a fly floating in the liquid as well. The shot of Dennis Quaid’s vendor character greedily eating shrimp does this mean Sparkle goes through different ages like an arthropod and that’s why she screams when she sees herself in the mirror and she’s literally lost. Spine?
With a runtime of two hours and twenty minutes, we’ll have plenty of time to digest substance It will be released in theaters nationwide on September 20.
