The Empire Arena was packed on Friday night for what was retroactively billed as the “What We Do in the Shadows” farewell tour. Almost all the actors are present. Matt Berry (Lazlok Cravensworth), Kayvan Novak (Nandor the Ruthless), Javi Guillen (Guillermo) and Mark Prokesh (played by Colin Robinson) Everyone and the writers/executive producers were in attendance. Sam JohnsonShowrunner/Executive Producer Paul Sims and director/executive producer Sara Naftalis. Sadly, Natasia Demetriou (Nadja) It can’t be there. We missed Kayvan in the last NYCC panel on What We Do in the Shadows, and now we’re missing Natasia. It seems like New York wasn’t lucky enough to get the entire cast together at once! But what a fun group it is.

The panel began with an early screening of the first two episodes of the sixth and final season. what do we do in the shadows. It was a real treat for the huge Empire Stage audience, who laughed loudly throughout both episodes. The new season will premiere on FX this Monday, October 21, and on Hulu on Tuesday, October 22.
When the episode ends, scroll stone Alan Sepinwall did an excellent job moderating the panel discussion, examining the questions carefully while giving room for panelists to answer and interact with each other. Harvey Guillen really likes the direction Guillermo is taking this season. The actor commented: “It was great to see him[alone]. He was committed to being self-sufficient and self-reliant, but they wouldn’t let him.
Kevan began his first answer with a ruthless Nandor voice, much to the amusement of the crowd. “Well… just last night, Guillermo introduced me to a movie. It’s called this The Goonies. In that movie, there’s a line that I’d like to tweak a little with your permission, it’s “Hey you damn guysssssss! Oh, you got a problem? And then he stopped speaking in Nandor Voice added, “It’s going to be a great season. ”
Mark said of Laszlo and Colin Robinson’s growing friendship over the past few seasons. “It’s fun. They’re an odd couple, and odd couples work well together. We had a lot of fun working together. We enjoyed what you saw on screen. The scenes were incredible. When When you perform in this type of environment, it becomes easier to perform.
Matt added, “Character-wise, Laszlo remembers raising him (Colin) as a kid, but Colin doesn’t.” When asked which version of young Colin Robinson he enjoyed playing the most When asked, Mark replied: “Young Colin was my favorite. The writers thought it was funny to see me naked. No one else in the world did that and they found it attractive. Whenever I wore something too I love it when it comes to revealing clothes.
In the new season, Laszlo becomes obsessed with resurrecting the dead in a Dr. Frankenstein-style way. “We also wanted to do a Frankenstein-type story, but Laszlo denied that he didn’t know who Frankenstein was,” said Paul Sims, describing Colin and Laszlo as “neither willing to admit it. How close they are, but they are.”
The cast was asked what they would miss about the show. Matt Smith was the first to respond: “Obviously the other actors. In a free situation.” Kevan began to answer in a Nando voice, but soon stopped talking. “Last night, no, I already did arrive. The crowd laughed. “I’m going to miss these guys. Harvey will miss “meeting some of my favorite writers and people, but most of all, I will miss the hard-working crew. We will miss their hard work.” Mark added, “After six seasons, the cast And the staff did become very close, but the freedom and encouragement they had in this show to talk about some weird topics I enjoyed and had no use for again. When asked about improvisation, Matt explained: “It’s never pre-planned. Every scene you just think about the ending. If you need to say these things more than once, then it’s all just for your own entertainment.” Enjoy yourself. People want to see this again and it’s a huge privilege.
When asked what he has learned over the years as Guillermo, Javier said: “I feel like I can go out and play some stuff.”
Mark revealed his early hesitations in playing Colin Robinson. “In Season 1, I wasn’t worried about whether I was actually hated. I didn’t want to be a screamer on a cool show. That was addressed by developing the character more.” He added: “Without fan word of mouth, this show wouldn’t have lasted six seasons. These were the shows I loved when I was younger and I’m proud to be a part of them. So thank you.
When asked why we never see the return of fan-favorite Laszlo alter-ego Jackie Daytona, a regular human bartender, Paul explained, “It’s never like the first time. OK. It’s always there as a perfect thing, but when you see the final season of the show, do you think we want to give them another taste of what they love so much, but we’ll see. Matt loves playing Jackie. He said: “The toothpick joke is one of the best jokes ever. It’s such an honor to be able to do it and I’m glad people like it.
The panel’s final Q&A included two surprising video submissions from celebrities. Both Jeff bridge and mark Hamill (Vampire Jim) Recorded talking about their love for the show. Jeff wants to know more about energy vampires. The panel told a story: At an FX party, they discovered that Jeff Bridges was a big fan and wanted to meet him. Mark described him as “a lovelier man you’ve never met”. Mark Hamill is grateful to be a part of it what do we do in the shadows Love playing vampire Jim.
After the panel, all attendees received a fun reversible What We Do In The Shadows Final Tour T-shirt. The distribution is a bit confusing. Note to all future Empire Stage panels: give away your winnings on entry, or have an orderly distribution system in place on exit. I don’t want to end this post with a diss about shirt giveaways. The group was great. The crowd went wild. If we’re lucky enough to see the final reunion movie or bonus season, hopefully the whole group (and Natasha!) will make it back to New York CC!
