The director of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel was apparently convinced he would be fired until he was asked to lead the sequel.
Cyberpunk 2077 lead quest designer Pawel Sasko is currently gearing up to direct the controversial RPG’s as-yet-untitled sequel, which is obviously a daunting task that’s sure to bring stress (we all remember the state it was in when it was released ). But before Sasko gets a chance to experience those pressures, he first has to face another one. The CD Projekt Red developer recently spoke on the Flow Games podcast, where he talked about whether he wants to stay at the studio, or move on to something else (thanks GamesRadar).
“When you work at a company for a long time, there comes a time when your career is at a crossroads and you think, ‘Should I move into another really big project at this company, or should I look elsewhere? Maybe learn something new?'” Sasko said on the podcast. It should be clear that this is not a serious idea, as he “[loves] “This company is too much,” but he asked himself the question anyway. Opportunity to start something new but you’re still in the same company.

That sort of thing might be welcome news to many, but he wasn’t quite sure what was going to be asked of him until he learned that this was where his career would take him. Sasko explained that he was invited to have a one-on-one meeting with Cyberpunk 2077 game director Gabe Amatangelo, which was normal. The first red flag was that Amatangelo messaged him twice to ensure he would attend the live meeting, which Sasko called a “bizarre request.”
“So I got ready, went to the office, walked into the office, and the game director, who’s my boss, who’s the CEO, who’s his boss, was sitting there,” Sasko continued to explain. “The two most important people in the company. I was thinking, ‘Am I going to get fired? Is this what’s going on? What are those guys doing here?'” Of course, he was actually asked to direct the sequel, which was an invitation to Described as “very humble”.
We know next to nothing about the sequel right now, since it’s not too far off in development after all, but we do know that CD Projekt Red is hoping to make it feel more American with the right pothole covers.
