Movie review:
- tmdb28039023: Every franchise sooner or later becomes a parody of itself, by design or accident; The Crow: Evil Prayer never had a chance to avoid that fate, but Eddie Furlong, David Boreanaz, Tara Which movie starring Reed and Danny Trejo could avoid this fate? On the other hand, we have Dennis Hopper playing a pimp named El Nino who’s like, “You stole daddy’s car keys, but you can’t control the horsepower,” so it’s not a total loss.
- We know that Crow, like Dude, must face a group of nihilists; in this case, a multi-ethnic gang whose members all identify with one of the Four Horsemen: Luke “Death” Collapse, War (Marcus Oki), Famine (Tito Ortiz), and Plague (Yuji Okumoto).
- None of them actually do any subject matter related to their name, so I guess they just think they sound cool. By the way, in a group of characters with thematic names, sometimes one character doesn’t fit the mold (a trope known as Aerith and Bob); in this case, she’s Luke’s girlfriend Laura (Reed decoration).
- Luke is “the leader of a satanic cult” whose “motivation” is his “father” [was] Killed by an Indian. This doesn’t make much sense, until we find out that the “Indian” Moses (Richard Comba) who murdered Luke’s father was a priest of a religious sect – ostensibly Catholic, but allowing its priests to marry and have children, And this also belongs to the father Harold (Trejo), whose daughter Lily (Emmanuel Chriqui) is the girlfriend of Jimmy Cuervo (Fron), Jimmy Cuervo Currently on parole after being imprisoned for killing a rapist who happened to be Moses’ son. It’s a small world indeed.
- War, famine, plague, and Lola helping Luke escape from prison, the five continue the ritual murder of Jimmy and Lily; the rest, as they say, is history: Jimmy returns from the afterlife to exact revenge on his murderers one by one , and cruel and unusual punishments such as extermination are reserved for them.
- Oddly, no one except Jimmy seems interested in tracking down the fugitive, whose gang leaves a trail of blood wherever they go. Then again, the movie uses the word “Aztec” to refer to the Native American tribe.
- All things considered, I’m tempted to believe that TC: WP’s self-parody is intentional; for example, Luke provides his followers with a banquet that includes deviled ham, deviled eggs, and deviled cake “al flambeau.” I’m not saying that The Crow is to Evil Dead what Army of Darkness is to Evil Dead, but, incoherent or not, it’s the only one besides the original that comes close to being watchable.
