The Borderlands movie is so trashy and worthless that it forces Borderlands refugees back into the old games. Following the movie’s release earlier this month, we saw a huge spike in player numbers for Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands 3 as these poor souls desperately searched for still Reasons to care about this IP.
Frankly, this is a good move because all three games are really good! Borderlands 2 is often considered the best of the trilogy, although Borderlands 1 still holds a place in my heart. Borderlands 3 was more controversial among fans, but still featured great gunplay that made thousands of players fall in love with the sci-fi post-apocalyptic series.

The number of Borderlands 1 players on Steam increased from approximately 644 on August 7 to 2,949 on August 11. There were 7,938 people on the 11th, and “Borderlands 3” surged from 3,687 on the 7th to 12,379 on the 11th. Those aren’t like earth-shattering numbers, but they’re not too shabby now for a trilogy that’s been on the shelf for years.
If there’s anything to learn here, it’s that there’s clearly something in the game that’s not in the shitty movie. I can tell you first hand what it is. This is the action! Gearbox has always been great at gunplay and explosive games. It’s the glue that holds the whole thing together. The action scenes in this movie are dull, contain nothing but humor, and can be said to be masturbatory all the time. I still enjoyed Borderlands 1 – including the jokes – but by Borderlands 3 I was pretty much over it.
