If you were lucky enough to experience the seventh generation of consoles as a youngster and had enough disposable income to buy a few games a month, you were well off. You probably have countless fond memories of every big new water-cooler game that the studio was launching with alarming frequency back then, and you had no idea what “games as a service” even meant. Bliss.
What’s frustrating, however, is how unreliable these machines are. The Xbox 360 was, of course, affected by the “Red Ring of Death” scandal, a massive and expensive technical design and consumer rights mistake that cost Microsoft billions of dollars to correct. The PS3 also has the Yellow Light of Death, which isn’t as serious or widespread as Microsoft’s problem, but it still affects a lot of people, and if you’re still lucky enough to have a working PS3 Fat, it’s almost certainly going to happen. stuff and replace the thermal paste. Honestly. Just do it. No matter what you do, it will eventually die, but don’t tempt fate.
That’s not to say that the seventh generation was the only era to suffer from widespread technical issues. Every generation of consoles has some or more common issues, usually caused or exacerbated by overheating, and therefore usually associated with games that have a particularly difficult time driving the hardware. So which of these system-breaking games is the best? Well, that’s what we’re getting into on this panel show with Jim Trinca as host and Tom Orry and Sherif Saed as regulars Panelist, Ian Higton from Eurogamer was a special guest (he’s my favorite, very handsome and generally odorless).
