The most worth buying comics on September 11, 2024
Batman & Robin #13
writer: Joshua Williamson
artist: Juan Ferreira
Writer: Steve Wants
Publisher: DC Comics
Batman, Robin and Bane must escape Dinosaur Island. But they are not alone! A dangerous presence has taken over and won’t let anyone leave the island alive! Can this dynamic father and son return to Gotham, or will this be their last adventure together?
Why it’s cool: It’s the end of writer Joshua Williamson’s time on this book, but more importantly, it’s the end of his time writing continuing stories about Damian Wayne, which is perhaps the first time since he launched The best story about this character since, introducing a level of levity and fun to him. I’m a big fan of it.
price: $4.99
Dead Eye – Empty Shadow Box #1
writer: Gerry Dugan
artist: John McCrae
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Writer: Joe Sabino
Publisher: Image comics
Dead Eye is back! The world’s most unkillable comedian appears across Boston. At the end of Volume One, the hooded man known as Dead Eye uncovers clues to the location of the stolen paintings in one of the largest private art thefts in the United States. Can Dead Eye and Wheels lower the score while evading the police and the mafia? Duggan and McCree are back, and they’re sinking their teeth into the throat.
Why it’s cool: first one dead eye The series was great, and now we’re getting more, an interesting subversive twist on the theme. But most of all, you hope this comic leads to more great John McCrea/Mike Spicer art.
price: $3.99
First red, then black #2
writer: stephanie phillips
artist: Suzuka Goran
Colorist: Yves Swosina
Writer: Tom Napolitano
Publisher: Prosperity! studio
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) flashbacks take Val back to prison and provide insight into her personality and origins before Florida. Meanwhile, now, Leo is in her crosshairs, but the surgery has to take place in a place with too much collateral…
Why it’s cool: This is one of my favorite art teams in all of comics (no exaggeration), and this script suits them perfectly. This comic is great to read and looks great. This is a low-key, gritty, character-driven crime miniseries, what more could you want?
price: $4.99
Summer Shades #1
writer: John Harris Dunning
artist: Ricardo Cabral
Colorist: brad simpson
Writer: Jim Campbell
Publisher: dark horse comics
Nick Landry travels to the unspoiled Greek island of Afracos to find his ex. Anthony was the love of his life, and Nick couldn’t move on without knowing why he left. But Antony was not the only one to go missing in Afraksos. Coast Guard Officer Alexos Cuculos is tracking another missing young man on the island. They learn that, before disappearing, they both fell in love with a mesmerizing scene aboard a dark superyacht, the Nyx. As the mystery deepens, Nick and Alex discover that the brighter the sun, the darker the shadows…
Why it’s cool: This is a complex and confident adult comic that stands out among the usual direct market offerings. I like it.
price: $5.99
Ninja Turtles #2
writer: Jason Aaron
artist: Rafael Albuquerque
Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
Writer: Sean Lee
Publisher: IDW Press
Michelangelo lived in Tokyo, where he became a big television star. It was a cool life, full of fame and fortune, but honestly, Mickey missed his brothers and their sense of purpose together. Well, in a classic case of “be careful what you wish for”, it looks like his old life is coming for him when a ninja shows up at his apartment armed to the teeth!
Why it’s cool: This slow-moving new era of the Turtles continues in the style of Michelangelo and features artist Raphael Albuquerque – a one-two punch that makes for a great comic. I’m loving it so far and I’m anxiously awaiting the moment when everyone in the band comes together. This is a great way to create tension and interest in these books.
