Did anyone foresee Sam M.’s impending collapse?
Well, yes. I did it. If you watched this season of The Bachelorette , you probably did too.
I don’t know what Sam’s main goal is in all this, but it’s certainly not to be with Jenn. But let’s break this hour down because there’s a lot going on besides Sam not answering a single question.
When time begins, everyone is back in the United States, Seattle to be specific. If you want to play a drinking game in the first hour, take a sip every time someone says they’re in the Emerald City.
It’s a big week, because from here on out, she’s heading back to her hometown and Jenny has to decide who she’s most serious about and recruit former Bachelorette Charity to help with the discussion.
Charity is still a lovely woman and one of the best Bachelorettes ever. She gave Jenn some great advice and talked to her about some people she was still unsure about.
The three people she’s most worried about are Sam M (duh), Jeremy (I barely remember him being there half the time), and Marcus (she clearly likes him, but he’s not as open as some of the others).
The boys got a date card at the hotel and it was for Marcus, too bad for Jeremy! He still needs one-on-one, and Marcus is already second!
It’s obvious that if Marcus opens up a little bit, everyone but Devin might be screwed because she likes this guy so much. But alas, Marcus just won’t be someone he’s not.
Jenn and Marcus’ date is a marketing campaign for Wicked (this Thanksgiving!), and their date involves Kelsey and Daisy, and Charity and Trista showing up at various locations on the yellow brick road, getting the two lovebirds open Open your heart.
Perhaps the sweetest moment was seeing a quick video of Marcus’ sister and Jenn receiving a nice letter from her mom.
Even though Jenn finds it hard for Marcus to be vulnerable, I swear these two are constantly on the verge of tears or openly crying, so they do more than just giggle and sit around, which is actually the case for several other people as well.
Their date ends with a hot air balloon as Jenn continues to make sure all of these people somehow find their way to the sky; then, for the evening portion, Marcus dives deep into talking about his childhood.
Mixed in there is a date card for the rest of the group, and everyone except Jeremy is going on a group date. at last! This is episode six and I know next to nothing about Jeremy. I don’t think Jenn really understands either.
Going back to Marcus and Jenn’s emotional date at an abandoned baseball park, I couldn’t wait to meet Marcus’ sister because it was clear they had a strong bond over their shared childhood, and he and Jenn Seems perfect for each other.
There’s an emphasis here on Marcus not being as far along as Jenn, but it reads like they like each other and they’re getting there at a good pace. It wasn’t that Jenny was throwing herself at the man and he was running away.
Jenn gives him the rose and like I’ve been saying since the first episode…front runner.
The group date brings back a blast from the past: Jason and Molly Mesnick, who are still happily married, and come to listen to the awkwardness of men on the radio.
Much of the episode revolved around Jenn’s indecision about Sam M., and honestly, the whole thing was so real. From the outside, Sam is all talk 95% of the time, but when you’re attracted to someone, you often ignore a lot of things until the glow wears off.
The dwindling numbers apparently made Jenn realize that Sam M. was just a living buzzword, and the entire radio date turned into him repeatedly putting his foot in his mouth until the show put Jenn and us out of our misery.
I don’t know what the worst part of the whole thing is. When he mentioned that Jen wasn’t his type, did he think the bachelorette would be Daisy or Maria? Or when he doesn’t answer questions and just kisses Jenn during a radio interview?
Everyone was freaked out by Sam because he didn’t keep the main thing in mind and then went to a cocktail party.
Everyone had a great time with Jenn, and they all said they were in love with her, but notably, she only reciprocated with Devin.
Do whatever you want.
Jenn and Sam spend their time with her trying to get him to say something meaningful and when he fails he blurts out that he loves her and all I know is she’s internally screaming because WHAT?
Sam can’t tell her three things about himself, but should she believe he loves her?
If there’s one thing that men always have, it’s boldness.
Jenn didn’t send out the roses, and since she didn’t, I wonder why she didn’t tell Sam to pack his bags right away.
Jen and Jeremy’s date takes them to the fish market in Seattle that appears in every montage, and much of the dynamic between these two is rooted in fun. They make each other laugh, their interactions are lighthearted, but there’s also a lot of love and affection?
I didn’t see it.
Still, their daytime date was adorable, and the night portion revolved around them talking about their religion and hypothetical kids, a common first-date topic.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with Jenn and Jeremy, but when you pit them against her, Devin, her, and Marcus, it’s unfair how well those pairings work.
Jeremy had to throw a tantrum if Jenn didn’t give him a rose, but he didn’t, and he got one, which meant going into the next rose ceremony, Jenn had two roses and five men to choose from.
But she didn’t even attend the ceremony before showing up at the hotel looking for Sam M., who I can’t believe was actually with Jenn because their last conversation was terrible.
Not only did he not give Zhan any trouble, he was also very strange. It’s weird telling someone you love them but not being able to say anything else of substance.
I love that Jen didn’t even explicitly dump him. She was like, been there, done that, I simply couldn’t be bothered anymore.
Sam has the nerve to say that Jenn’s energy is sluggish? Get him off my screen as soon as possible!
If you pay attention, the rose ceremony can seem anticlimactic.
Devin is a no-brainer, and between Grant, Spencer, and Jonathan, she has the most natural chemistry with him.
Grant was really sad, and so was Spencer’s phone call with his mom, although he seemed more upset that he wasn’t chosen by someone, but specifically by Jenn.
So, our hometown date is going to be Marcus, Jeremy, Devin, and Jonathan, and if I read it correctly, we’re on a collision course with Marcus and Devon going to the end.
Although Jonathan might be a dark horse!
Well guys, let me know in the comments what you thought after watching this movie! Will you miss Sam M? Have you ever cringed more than you did during that radio interview?
You can watch The Bachelorette every Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
