As previously leaked, Worm Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is real and it’s ready to surprise you on September 26th!
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the game, this new version of the best game in the Worms series comes with a series of improvements on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4, and PS5. So far, there’s been no mention of a PC version. I’ve reached out to Team17 to see if they can provide any comment.
“This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Worms: Armageddon. The creators of the game hope to bring the experience of Armageddon to a new generation of players and evoke the fond memories of players when the game was first launched,” said the official press release. .
Perhaps the most important announcement is full online multiplayer support, allowing up to six players to compete for dominance! According to the full press release, online support will also be cross-generational, so PS5 players can compete against PS4 players and more. Unfortunately, it doesn’t specify cross-platform multiplayer.
Incorporating true online multiplayer into the mix means we can finally experience the immense joy of humiliating your friends by winning matches with the greatest attack in gaming history: the dreaded finger poke. Oh, satisfaction! Is there anything more climactic than the moment you gently poke the last remaining enemy worm off a cliff? Well, unless it happens to your last worm. Then it gets so annoying
Most importantly, the new version will have:
• Optimized controller support for all consoles.
• Achievements and trophies
• New display features such as modern aspect ratios, custom screen filters, enhanced HD and graphics options.
• Fully playable Game Boy Color version of Worms: Armageddon
• An interactive museum documenting the entire series’ history. Unprecedented interviews with the developers of the original and current games.
• New save system
With Armageddon getting the remaster treatment, maybe we can also hold out some hope for Worms 3D being completed?
