Jason Damron, the voice actor for The Storyteller who was the subject of the long-running and popular fan-made Fallout Legends video series on YouTube, appears to have died.

That’s according to a tweet posted earlier today by Damron’s account, which used his online handle Kankennon and is the same handle in the description of the latest Storyteller film he stars in.

“Hello everyone, I’m Emily Damron, daughter of Jason Damron (Storyteller),” it read, “and I just wanted to let you all know that on Saturday, September 7th, my dad Died after a year of failing health.

For those unfamiliar, the Storyteller series has a similar popularity among fans as other Ashes fan titles like Nuka Break. Storyteller has racked up millions of views on YouTube, spanning everything from the original Fallout to Bethesda’s modern titles (Fallout 3 and 4) and New Vegas. Various lore themes, The Storyteller’s premise is simple, yet brilliant.

Hi everyone, I’m Emily Damron, the daughter of Jason Damron (The Storyteller), and I just wanted to let you guys know that my dad is going through a year of… passed away on Saturday, September 7, after failing health. He was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal adenocarcinoma, which had spread to his liver.

You play as a power armor-clad wastelander obsessed with documenting the past and present of the world around him, living in a mecha-style manner with the help of mods and using his travels across the wasteland depicted in the game to discuss the realm of Fallout lore, while the adventure plot that gradually builds as the series progresses prevents things from becoming too boring or information-heavy. For young fans like me who got into Fallout through recent installments, this show is a great way to get a first look at the wider world of Fallout and the characters in Fallout 1 and 2. event.

The voice of Damron, who stars alongside long-time Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, Courtney Taylor (who voiced the female variant of the sole survivor in Fallout 4), and others, even had a cameo appearance in one episode. People like Fallout developers Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer are a big part of the appeal. This voice can turn a seemingly awkward intellectual lecture into a monologue that keeps you engaged and moving forward.

Following the news of the actor’s passing, many celebrities and creators in the Fallout/Bethesda community have expressed their condolences. “Jason is always a pleasure to work with and he has an amazing passion for Ashes and making cool content. The world is a dimmer place without him. It’s devastating,” Shoddycast YouTube wrote Austin Hourigan, the channel’s current kingpin.

YouTuber TKs-Mantis posted: “Thanks for the work we’ve done together and the fun conversations. His character Storyteller is truly a legend in the Fallout community! My heart goes out to his family.” “Hear This news is truly heartbreaking,” added fellow Fallout YouTuber Juicehead. “Storytellers are a major inspiration for me and my content, and a big reason why I started making Fallout videos.”
