Lucasfilm’s Star Wars series acolyte has been canceled by Disney and there are no plans to continue the story. I have to say, I’m not surprised. The series is poorly written and I found the story and characters to be very uninteresting.
The decision to cancel the show comes more than a month after the show’s eight-episode first season aired on Disney+. The show is from creator, director, executive producer and showrunner Lesley Headland, who hopes to continue telling the story.
While The Acolyte was warmly received by some critics, earning a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, Star Wars fans were divided over it, which was reflected in its overall ratings rate. Many Star Wars fans criticized the series, and things got really ugly at one point.
Regardless, fans of the show did try to push for a second season with #RenewTheAcolyte, which was trending on X for a while. But support isn’t strong enough for Disney to do so.
The show got off to a strong start, with 4.8 million views on its first day, making it the largest series premiere on Disney+ this year. Five days later, the number of views rose to 11.1 million.
However, sales of the series declined steadily, and acolyte Unable to maintain momentum. The season finale clocked in at 335 million minutes, the lowest of any Star Wars series finale.
Ultimately, Disney decided it wasn’t worth renewing the expensive Star Wars series, which costs well over $100 million per season to produce.
