Movies often depict robots as harbingers of bad things, whether they are evil or want to take over the world (Terminator, me, robot, The Hacketc.) or are being exploited by humans (blade runner, Ex Machina, AIETC. But robots aren’t all bad—they can also be fun, cute, and family-friendly.
Children (and adults) love assembling robotic toys and figuring out how the different components interact and fit together. Robots have been an important part of children’s movies for many years, especially before the turn of the millennium, e.g. bicentennial man and Inspector Gadget Arriving in the late 1990s. While they may not be the greatest, they capture the creativity that makes robots exciting for kids.
wild robotIt tells the story of a robot that learns to live in the forest and becomes friends with a cute gosling. September 27. The film stars Pedro Pascal, Stephanie Seo and Mark Hamill and will join the ranks of children’s movies about robot friends.
We collected all of these movies and tried to rank them based on their quality, considering whether they were just teenage gibberish or something more meaningful that adults could enjoy as well. Let’s get started.
