A fan came to the “Civilization” Reddit with a “little daydream” and asked if he could play the upcoming 4X strategy game “Civilization 7” in advance. The reason is sad because their father is currently battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. As a long-time fan of Sid Meier, having played both Alpha Centauri and the original Civilization, the opportunity to play the latest game would be a nice gift.
“I wouldn’t normally ask this, but my dad only had a few months to live,” wrote JordantheGnat. “He died of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He had been Sid Meier since Alpha Centauri. A fan of the game, I think I’m trying to find any games he can play before he passes away since we’re not sure if he’ll be able to play in February and if that isn’t there yet, I just hope someone can.

But it turns out the vision may ultimately work. Sarah, Firaxis’ community manager, responded to the request, asking Jordan to contact us via direct message. That’s the end of the breadcrumbs for now, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say I hope Firaxis connects Jordan to his father. As for the Civ community, they have poured in their support. Some even went so far as to show their appreciation by purchasing more expensive versions of the game.
Obviously, overall, it’s a sad story, but it’s great that Firaxis is willing and able to lend a helping hand to fans in need. It’s something you love to see, some great community interaction that will make a real difference to someone’s life.
