Months after Microsoft shut down, Krafton announced the acquisition of Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks for an undisclosed amount
Tango Gameworks and several other studios appear to have been shut down by Microsoft in June of this year. This is a controversial closure, as Hi-Fi Rush is a critically acclaimed game that was recently ported to the PlayStation 5.
But now, it looks like Tango Gameworks will continue to exist as part of the Krafton family alongside Bluehole Studio, PUBG Studios, and others. South Korea-based Krafton publishes games such as PUBG: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Callisto Protocol and Moonbreaker.
“KRAFTON, Inc. today welcomes the talented people of Tango Gameworks to their team, marking an exciting time for the company’s global expansion and its first major investment in the Japanese video game market,” said Krafton. “This strategic move will include rights to Tango Gameworks’ critically acclaimed IP Hi-Fi RUSH.”
Perhaps the most interesting part of the press release is when Krafton seems to confirm that Hi-Fi Rush 2 is likely to launch; “…KRAFTON intends to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity for Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team toContinue to develop Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects.
“KRAFTON intends to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and continuity for Tango Gameworks, allowing the talented team to continue development High fidelity RUSH intellectual property and explore future projects.
According to the press release, all existing Tango Gameworks games will continue to be released as normal.
Personally, it’s very exciting because Tango Gameworks is a very talented team and it’s shocking to see them close. Sure, their games didn’t bring in big bucks, but they brought variety and some serious clout to the Xbox, especially Hi-Fi Rush, which won numerous awards.
