Sidney Sweeney Currently filming her next film project, a boxing biopic that will tell the story of the groundbreaking boxer Christie Martin.
When the movie was first announced, I remember thinking Sweeney didn’t have the physique of a boxer and wasn’t sure how she was going to pull it off. Well, the actress posted a few behind-the-scenes photos and damn…she’s gained weight!
Sweeney showed off her arms in the photo and she proved me wrong. It’s not hard to see her as a boxer now!
The untitled film “will tell the true story of Martin becoming the most famous female boxer in the United States in the 1990s – the ‘Female Rocky’.
“She was a naturally gifted boxer whose life changed in 1989 when she met her manager and later husband, Jim Martin. She broke boundaries and became the first A woman signed to iconic promoter Don King and the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
“Her charisma, good looks and toughness in the ring earned her a rabid fan base and propelled her to become a welterweight champion. But behind the carefully honed public persona, she also dealt with personal inner struggles. Demons, toxic relationships, and a cruel attempt on her life.
Sweeney said in a previous statement: “I started fighting and kickboxing from the age of 12 to 19. I have always wanted to get back in the ring, train and change my body. Christie’s story is not an easy one, it takes a toll on the body. It’s very demanding emotionally and requires a lot of responsibility, but I like to challenge myself.
She continued: “Christy Martin not only legitimized the sport of boxing for women, she overcame gender stereotypes and fought emotional, physical and financial abuse.
“I am passionate about the world of fighting, and Christie’s story reveals her incredible rise while showing the struggle for fame behind the scenes. I felt compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity, But don’t let it defeat her. It’s powerful and emotional.
The director of this movie is David Michaudhe added: “I have a history of making films about wounded men, and I’ve always wanted to make a film about a woman with a fierce energy inside her.
“When I saw Christy Martin’s story two years ago, I knew I had found it. Her brutality was understandable and justified, and audiences would crave it because of the circumstances she was forced to endure.”
He continued: “The film tells the story of Christie as a young lesbian in the small town of West Virginia in the 1990s. She comes from a relatively conservative family and is not allowed to be herself, so she uses boxing to As a tool to express yourself and your anger.
“She had to make some dangerous and fundamental compromises in her life, not the least of which was marrying an extremely dangerous man.”
Michaud added: “I was blown away by how well Sydney performed in real life. She has been into sports and fighting games since she was a little girl.
