Just a year ago, EA and Respawn announced that Star Wars: Survivors would also be coming to last-generation consoles. Now, the version has a release date.
Star Wars: Last Stand will be released on Xbox One and PS4 on September 17th.
The reason for the huge time gap between the game’s initial version and last-gen port is likely due to performance issues. Even on the latest hardware, Survivor can suffer from framerate issues, especially on PC. In fact, the fine folks at Digital Foundry revisited the PC version 10 months ago and described it as “still the worst AAA PC port of 2023.”
In other words, a lot of people, myself included, are skeptical that the game will work on Xbox One or PS4. According to the press release, it will feature “various optimizations aimed at maximizing the capabilities of the console’s hardware.” Please forgive me if I’m not holding my breath.
Returning to the PC version, EA promises a new update in the coming weeks. The update promises to “enhance the game’s technical performance, controls, and more,” as well as improve quality of life.
If you’re wondering why EA and Respawn are going to backport the game, it’s because there are still a lot of people still playing the game on older hardware. PlayStation, for example, has half of its monthly users using a PS4, so it’s no surprise that the industry isn’t ready to let go.
Speaking of PlayStation, if you like some Star Wars in your life, you can buy LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga now as part of the PlayStation Plus Essential plan.
