StoryPhones, a screen-free alternative to kid-friendly audio devices, will be available at Target and Sam’s Club stores nationwide starting November 1. Bluetooth headsets use interchangeable disk StoryShields to tell stories.
StoryShields are great for kids to use. Once connected to StoryPhones, you can download stories to your device’s memory for offline playback. Kids gain important skills offline and off-screen while developing a love of storytelling. Stories are easy to play, pause and stop. Each story presents age-appropriate content, from educational materials to Disney favorites such as lion king, cinderellaand freezing. Caregivers and parents can also tell and record stories for their children.
Kids can use ZenShield, too. Similar to StoryShield, these disks can soothe overstimulated children and help them relax with soothing music and calming sounds, such as ocean waves.
ONANOFF, the parent company of StoryPhones, said StoryPhones can help improve children’s sleep and attention. In one of their own studies, they found that 85% of learning occurs through listening, and audio content can improve reading accuracy (by 52%), motivation, and comprehension.
The headphones retail for $99.99 online and in stores. StoryShield costs $9.99. Sam’s Club plans to sell the StoryShields set for $39.99. Caregivers can find more information about StoryPhones online at Storyphones.com.
