Star Wars Episode I: Battle of the Jedi is back with an extensive Aspyr remaster packed with new content and silly arcade cheats

The Phantom Menace was probably the Star Wars movie that got the most tie-in games at the time, and Lucasfilm Games seems to be making sure we remember them all. After briefly re-releasing Episode I: The Phantom Menace earlier this year, Aspiel has announced that he will be remastering The Last Jedi.

Like more recent Star Wars titles like Battlefront Classic Collection and Bounty Hunters, Jedi Power Battles is a multi-platform release, but once again it’s on the PlayStation Blog where you can Find out all the exciting details about the new content.

While the game based on the film’s title is a fairly close retelling, with action-adventure and role-playing elements, Jedi Power Battles feels much looser and more fun, instead taking on an arcade feel Beat-’em-up action plus platformer style. Reviews of the original PS1 version were divided, but the Dreamcast port fared better. Looking at this modern glowing announcement trailer (which you can watch below), it’s safe to assume that Aspyr has taken elements from both and then added brand new quality-of-life changes and visual improvements on top of that.

Pre-orders are now available on Steam, PS4/5, Xbox consoles and Nintendo Switch, but we’ll have to wait January 23, 2025let us master it.

In addition to the bonus content already accumulated in the original version, Aspyr Remastered includes:

• Alternative, canon-friendly lightsaber colors for Mace Windu, Ki-Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, and Adi Gallia.
• All secret characters and levels are unlocked from the start, including 13 new characters and levels culled from across the game, with many more yet to be announced.
• New modes and gameplay improvements from the Dreamcast version and Aspyr’s own cooking.
• The classic couch co-op mode is also added to all available extra levels and mini-games.
• Cheat codes and new unlockable features including Big Head Mode and super lightsaber power-ups.

All in all, Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr seem to have really nailed what makes Battle of the Jedi so special and an important part of the Star Wars past. Some of my best Star Wars gaming memories come from imperfect gems like this one, and I’m glad they’re getting a new look for a younger generation rather than just old Jedi.
