who wins star citizen and elite dangerTen years ago, two of gaming’s biggest directors pitched us a crowd-funded space sim? “Star Citizen” is the spiritual sequel to “Wing Commander” and “Privateer”, and “Elite Dangerous” is a direct sequel to “Elite”, “Frontier: Elite 2” and “Frontier: First Encounters”. Well, it depends on how you define “win.” In other words, it does “exist”. That’s just one of our passionate disagreements on this week’s Best Games Podcast, along with GTA vs. Saints Row , Call of Duty vs. Medal of Honor , and another one we can’t remember differences.

Remember Lemmings vs. Humans? Well, Lemmings is a puzzle game where you have to coax a horde of the titular rodents through increasingly treacherous levels using units like Builders. Obstructor. Excavator. Others. I don’t know, it was a long time ago and I was 40 years old (aka dead). Humans are more or less “clones” of lemmings, right, and they’re having some kind of competition that, in my little kid mind, was like a decisive battle between 90s pop culture icons, just Ocean color scenes like Oasis and Blur or Oasis and Blur, or Oasis and Oasis.

Who won this contest? Well, these things are subjective. You could define it in sales terms (hard to verify) or cultural impact (hard to quantify), or you could simply base it on which series has survived the longest. This gives Team Human a three-year head start on the game, having released its last title on the Nintendo DS in 2009. The last Lemmings game failed miserably on the PSP and PS2 in 2006, and wasn’t even a proper sequel, but an enhanced re-release of the original. It’s worth noting that both series are releasing their final crap on 7th generation handheld devices, and it’s very interesting to me that the ever-loved Lemmings (who have a bronze statue in Dundee) are here to stay Lost in battle to the never-loved humans, among whom there were no bronze statues. In Dundee or anywhere else.
