Squirrel holding a gunThe developer of the gun-toting squirrel game released today (August 29) on PC has decided to commemorate the event by allowing its Steam page to host a day of livestreams or actual squirrel playdates. As of writing, it’s still going, and it’s pretty cool.
If you don’t know, Squirrel With A Gun has gone from being something just made for fun Twitter videos a few years ago to something that’s now actually coming out on PC and consoles, and it’s all about you What you expect, and some platforms you might not have.

To celebrate the game’s release on Steam and the Epic Store, its developers chose to host a livestream party for some real squirrels with the help of YouTube channel Backyard Buddies, which basically looks like it’s doing the entire “Springwatch” allows you to watch the lives of animals. Yes, call your aunts and uncles, they own 15 million bird feeders and adopt hedgehogs, now the game is catering to them.
We’ve embedded the broadcast below so hopefully you can check it out for yourself, but there are areas set up for the squirrels with some little plastic guns because it’s a video game. The one I’m looking at now has a toy car with an assault rifle sitting on top of it sitting next to a food bowl, the stream cuts off a fourth in between, and a larger garden area with multiple food stations- One of them is sitting right next to it with a revolver and a huge sniper rifle.
Overall, the squirrels seem pretty unfazed by the presence of the birds and they just do regular squirrel things, which is pretty good. For example, I just saw someone sniffing another one where its tail meets its butt. The other squirrel seemed unhappy and ran away. Ah, naturally.
As far as I know, Steam Developer Broadcasts of this nature aren’t saved anywhere once they’re completed so you can look back on them, so hopefully at least the highlights from them can be uploaded somewhere for posterity.
