The rumored mobile version of Final Fantasy 14 appears to be about to be released in China, with one just approved for release in China.
Reports emerged last month that Tencent was developing a mobile version of the popular MMO Final Fantasy XIV, and it appears the reports have been confirmed. Niko Partners shared a report this week that China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) approved 15 imported games on August 2, including some pretty big ones. Niko Partners stated that “Tencent and Square Enix are developing a mobile game based on Final Fantasy XIV, which has been approved.” Apparently, the language there indicates that it will be its own game, rather than a direct version of the game. In addition to “Final Fantasy 14”, Tencent also cooperated with Koei Tecmo to develop a mobile game based on “Dynasty Warriors 8”. Tencent will also publish several Nintendo games, “Mario Golf: Super Rush” and “Paper Mario: The Origami King.” Some Marvel games should also come to China, as NetEase has licensed Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals, the latter of which NetEase developed themselves. Finally, the Rainbow Six game has been approved for release on mobile devices and PC. Niko Partners believes that this is the 2025 Rainbow Six mobile game and will be operated by Tencent.
