As promised, Blizzard gave us a lot of information about Diablo 4’s first new class, the Soul Children, during a dedicated livestream. We got our first look at the new class’ gameplay, learning more about its origins, how it fits into the larger context, and seeing some of the new gear coming to the game alongside it.
As the name suggests, the Spiritborn is a warrior who forms an alliance with an animal from the spirit world. It wields a broadsword, is adept at hand-to-hand combat, and is able to summon what they call spirit beasts in battle.

The Spiritborn showcase is more distinctive than the average developer stream, taking place on a higher production value stage than the patch stream. The new class itself is an evolution of several classes from Diablo’s history, but it doesn’t quite align with any of them.
Blizzard says the Spiritborn is the fastest and most aggressive class in Diablo 4 to date, and the different Spirit Animals associated with it further diversify its combat style. As you’ll see in the gameplay trailer, combat moves and fighting styles change depending on which spirit you’re aligned with.
Similar to Druid, when playing Soul Child, you can choose a soul to align yourself with, and each soul will grant its own bonuses. Later you will be able to have two, one as a primary reward and the other as a secondary reward.
The four spirits are jaguar, eagle, gorilla and centipede. In addition to their unique abilities and how they affect the class’s combat moves, they each come with some creative visuals that you can see when you play as the Soul Child.
Spiritborn is only available to owners of the Vessel of Hate expansion, which arrives on October 8th.
