Marvel Animation held a super interesting panel at D23 this weekend, but no footage has been released online. This is really bad. We’ve got our first trailer ready Eye of Wakandaand Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man Enter the world.
That didn’t happen. What happened was we took a quick look at these shows, and X-Men ’97 Season 2 – which includes brief footage of Wolverine’s return and the iconic Frank Quitely suit from his run with Grant Morrison New X-Men-and What if…? In Season 3, the new Avengers include Riri Williams, Moon Knight, Sam Wilson, and other flying mechs who come together to form their own version of Voltron. Eye of WakandaThen Ryan Coogler’s new animated series introduced us to its unique aesthetic, blending CG animation with a hand-drawn look. The brief footage shown to attendees focused on a new character named Noni as she jumps across a giant pirate ship in an attempt to retrieve a mask with green eyes protecting a purple stone.
All of these are great. However, the two biggest highlights for us came from the first time we saw our presentation Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manthere is also news that Marvel Zombies The rumored animated form and its segments will return.
Started with spiderman, style Friendly neighborhood Reminds me of cartoons from the 1950s. It starts on Peter Parker’s first day at school. Aunt May drove him up, and out of nowhere, a huge green portal opened in the sky. A giant symbiote falls from the sky – similar to Venom, but with a mane and horns – and is about to wreak havoc when two magical beams envelop him. This is Doctor Strange. Peter is surprised by the sudden appearance of the magical wizard, however, the creature escapes. The creature begins to approach a classmate when Peter distracts him by throwing a brick. “Hey, ugly,” he said, and Strange caught him again. “Well saved, kid,” he said. While this was happening we saw a small spider fall from the entrance.
Strange pulled the creature back into the portal, but when the portal closed, it cut through the web and landed on Peter’s shoulder. Peter walks up to the girl he saved, and we see his face, her face, and the spider crawling into his shirt in a three-way frame. She introduced herself, and Peter let out a cry. She gets angry, but then he passes out. This leads into a killer post-credits scene set to a very catchy rap song complete with various comic book panels and touches.
Things started to look up a few months later, with some villains wearing high-tech appendages trying to pull off a heist. Spider-Man wears a very homemade suit with pipes running from a tank on his back to his wrists. He tries to stop them but is hit hard and a voice starts talking to him. Norman Osborn (voiced by Colman Domingo) says he’s watching him and can help. He gives him advice on how to stop the villain, which works, and the day is saved…for now.
The panel finally announced that Marvel is working on a four-part series. Marvel Zombies An animated series will debut at some point in the future that will escalate the violence seen in previous anime zombie materials like this What if…? Has a TV-MA rating. this zombie The footage begins with a helicopter flying over a city, shooting down and killing zombies. On the ground, we see Shang-Chi and Katie in valet costumes (who do sound like they’re voiced by Simu Liu and Awkwafina, or at least sound like them) fighting a horde of zombies. A man fell from the sky with some very bright rings on his arm. “Who is that?” Katie asked. “This is my dad,” Shang-Chi said. Wenwu starts to fight with the Ten Rings, including killing a zombie the size of Godzilla. Shang was shocked, stopped fighting, and was bitten on the arm. It was all over for him…until Wenwu gave him the ring, stopping the spread of the infection. However, doing so will open the door to yourself and be killed by zombies. “Remember what your mother taught you,” Wenwu said before he died. Katie Monk gets the ring and they escape in a helicopter.
“Five Years Later” plays on the screen in a nice little way endgame nod. Now in a post-apocalyptic world, Shang and Katie drive through a wasteland, listening to their cover of “Journey” on Zombie Apocalypse Radio. They were in a pink sports car. Shang wears a ring on his right arm that still protects him from deadly infections. Like a scene from mad maxthey lead a massive convoy, including a truck driven by Jimmy Woo (voiced by, we think, Randall Park – again, that or OK Sounds a lot like it).
A group of bad guys—we assume zombies, but the lead rider is a Skrull—attempt to attack the group. It doesn’t go well as Shang and Katie fire rings at them, one by one, taking them all off. “We’re so good,” Jimmy said.
Marvel is as keen on sharing any projected release windows for its upcoming animated shows as it is on publicly sharing all of the above footage, so it’s fair to say we’re not sure when we can expect any of this content on Disney+. but we have to imagine Friendly neighborhood and Eye of Wakanda will be the first of everything we see today. We’ll bring you more information as soon as we learn more about Marvel’s animation plans.
