Sony Group has officially launched the Soneium blockchain mainnet, which is a key development in its entry into web3 technology.
The mainnet, developed by Sony subsidiaries Sony Block Solutions Labs, S.BLOX Inc. and SNFT Inc., aims to simplify blockchain adoption by providing creators and enterprises with the tools to develop and deploy applications.
At the same time, the crypto asset trading platform S.BLOX has also been updated and launched NFT issuance and fan participation services.
What is somium?
Soneium was first announced in August 2024 and is developed by Sony Group with the vision of creating an “open network that transcends borders.” The Soneium blockchain provides developers with a powerful environment to build applications while giving creators the tools to monetize their work and engage with their audiences.
testnet, sonium hong kong Serving as a foundational phase of the project, it enables developers to test applications before deploying them to mainnet. More than 14 million user accounts were created during the testnet phase, and the transaction volume exceeded 47 million.
With the launch of the mainnet, developers can now migrate applications from the testnet and enable real cryptocurrency trading. The mainnet also supports in-app payments, allowing creators to generate revenue while fostering engagement with their fan community.
What projects are on Soneium?
The Soneium blockchain hosts a variety of applications, demonstrating its versatility and appeal to developers. During the testnet phase, projects were selected through the Soneium Spark incubation program, which received more than 1,700 applications.
The program has supported the development of 32 key projects, as well as numerous independent applications created by developers. These projects cover a wide range of categories, from entertainment and games, financial services, social apps, and more.
One noteworthy initiative is SNFT Inc.’s upcoming NFT-based fan engagement platform, which will launch in February 2025 and allow companies to issue NFTs and track audience engagement metrics.
Sony’s entertainment division also announced plans to integrate blockchain into its operations:

- Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan): Buyers of certain Prime Video movies can enjoy exclusive content.
- Sony Music Publishing (Japan): NFT events are related to live performances, such as those featuring the girl group SANDAL TELEPHONE.
- Sony Music France: Distribute limited edition NFT to members of the Sunny B.1991 Web3 music community.
Sony plans to further experiment with blockchain applications across its business units, with a focus on simplifying the decentralized technology and making it more practical for creators and audiences.
