forward attack on titan The anime finally ended late last year and it’s a running joke that the show just won’t end. Splitting it into four parts over three years gave it a notorious reputation, and it turns out we’re not done yet.
Earlier today, MAPPA Studios revealed that another film in the series is in the works. apt title Attack on Titan Movie: Final Attack, This 145-minute film contains the last two parts of the anime’s final season (episodes 29 to 35). Series director Yuichiro Hayashi said in an interview with Crunchyroll that the visuals will be updated based on the version originally aired. As for why he wanted to make the finale into a movie, he explained that during development, he storyboarded the previous season “[thinking] It will be watched as a movie. Having the opportunity to see this film in the best possible setting – a theater – is a dream come true for me.
To be fair, compilation movies are attack on titan. Each season has at least one episode, with subsequent movies serving as recaps of the seasons to which they are attached. In the case of Season 4, the final two parts were initially released as a pair of specials and later as separate episodes. It’s kind of interesting, though, that MAPPA hasn’t been able to completely break away from the series and move on. Is this the studio’s true, final farewell before committing?
