This week’s list of the best comics to buy for November 13th features some absolutely huge titles. Absolute Batman #2 continues to be probably the most talked about comic of the year, while Special Forces #1 Further building out the Energon universe, one of the hottest projects in comics of 2024, giving it a second pillar Transformers. Plus a gorgeous and literary miniseries conclusion Helen of Windhorn #6well, it’s been a great week. Below you can find my favorites as well as the usual list of releases…enjoy!
The most worth buying comics on November 13th
Absolute Batman #2
writer: Scott Snyder
artist: Nick Dragota
Colorist: frank martin
Writer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: DC Comics
Batman was born into violence—and a horrific tragedy shaped the trajectory of his future. But when an alert MI6 agent begins to track Bruce Wayne’s lonely life, he discovers interconnections between the hero’s shell life and the various layers of the Black Mask gang. It’s Batman versus Alfred Pennyworth!
Why it’s cool: With the creation of a new Batman origin coming to an end, issue two is starting to really integrate into our story – which is great. I think this is a perfect follow up to the first issue and the art is still incredible.

PI Skull #1
Writer/Artist/Colorist: Marco Finnegan
Writer: Jeff Eckerberry
Publisher: they press
In 1925, Juan Calavera died a hero. He earned a reputation for being fearless after a career outside the law defending Chicano barrios who refused to act. . . and a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Now, five years later, on Day of the Dead, his restless spirit is summoned from the grave to help a desperate former colleague solve a kidnapping case close to home. With just days left to solve the case, Calavera is called back to the underworld to see if he can reveal the identity of masked trafficker La Fantasma before tragedy strikes again. . . And solve the mystery of his own murder in the process?
Why it’s cool: This book takes a lot of great ingredients – hard-boiled noir, horror, Chicano history – and brings them together into a brilliant, action-packed comedic story. There’s a lot of setup to be done in this first issue, and it’s done so well that it has me very excited for the rest of this miniseries.

Special Forces #1
writer: Joshua Williamson
artist: Tom Riley
Colorist: Jody Bellaire
Writer: Ross Wootton
Publisher: Picture Comics – Skybound
Konrad Hauser, codenamed DUKE, formed a special forces unit called “Special Forces” to fight against the rising power of the mysterious Cobra after the Autobots and Decepticons arrived on Earth. But the mysterious Cobra Commander unleashes the power of energy like never before! Featuring many familiar faces and the debut of brand new characters, this comic will change everything you know about Special Forces…
Why it’s cool: Another mainstay of the Energon universe arrives today with new GI Joe #1, which has been in the works since 2017 Duke The miniseries began airing almost a year ago. This is awesome. It’s a heist/counter-heist story, with Joes on one side and Cobra on the other, and the tension in this issue is high. If you’ve been following the G.I. Joe character miniseries, they’re all gathered here, but new readers can also pick up the book.

Helen of Windhorn #6
writer: Tom King
artist: Bilquis Evely
Colorist: Matthews Lopez
Writer: Clayton Cowles
Publisher: dark horse comics
In this hit series starring Supergirl’s Tom King and Bilquis Evely, Helen relives her final adventure in a fantasy world, riding a shark like a horse into the sunset and battling dangerous… The sailors fight and everything comes to a final conclusion.
Why it’s cool: This book is a gorgeous gateway fantasy masterpiece, with well-written and complex family themes, and absolutely stunning artwork. This is the second time this creative team has hit an absolute home run (the first being Supergirl: Girl of Tomorrow). Hopefully they’re already working on what’s next.

Ultimate X-Men #9
Writer/Artist: peach
Script adaptation: Zach Davidson
Writer: Travis Lanham
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Lightning collides, May storm and surge finally face off! But when Surge becomes weak and drains her powers, Maystorm has more problems… and must investigate the mysterious cult to which Surge belongs and his ties to the Ultimate Cosmic Mutants!
Why it’s cool: I really appreciate the patient, character-driven approach this book takes in establishing mutants in this new Ultimate Universe. It’s a great story and an interesting contrast to how you’d imagine the X-Men operating in such a shared world. This issue also has some absolutely excellent art, as has every issue so far.
