Slack launches iPhone gadget to make work more inevitable

Today, Slack is launching the first four widgets for the iOS version of its mobile app. Three of them are designed for the iPhone home screen, while the fourth can be added to the lock screen, allowing users to jump immediately to the Slack app after unlocking the device.

Home screen widgets include Catch Up, which allows users to see at a glance how many unread messages and mentions they have without opening the app. It provides more detail than the Slack app icon badge, and clicking on the Catch Up widget takes users directly to that part of the Slack app so they can quickly swipe through conversations they missed.

Two additional home screen widgets simplify Slack status updates. Tapping on the smaller status widget also takes users directly to that section of the Slack iOS app, while the larger version offers the same functionality plus three pre-selected status options: One-hour Focus and Lunch state, and a half-hour “take a break” state. However, these preselected options cannot be customized at this time.

Slack’s presence on all our devices has made work feel like a nonstop affair. If you really want to bring more work into your life, adding these widgets might go a step further and put your work front and center every time you turn on your phone.
