Six years ago today, Lucasfilm revealed our first look at The Mandalorian. Time flies so fast! So much has happened in the last six years, and little did we know the show would go on to spark booms and busts Star Wars The last five years of TV endurance racing have given us dizzying highs and dizzying lows. We know very little about it, and this image tells us basically nothing about what the show is about real Will make an appointment! But after fellow writer and friend of the site Jordan Maison reminded me of this strange occurrence Star Wars On my anniversary today on social media, I only remember one thing.

It’s not nerdy joy, oh mineis the Anban phased pulse rifle on his back (which is, perhaps, the show’s ultimate Easter egg and cameo obsession). It’s not even surprising why the Mandalorian armor we see looks so oddly understated and scruffy (no one is perfect as we get to know the person we eventually get to know, Din Djarin).

I had to stare at this image for weeks and months on that fateful day in October, figuring out how to reuse it over and over again on this site.

Of course, this is a complaint from baseball insiders. one Star Wars Fans must be the first to watch the first live-action movie Star Wars Watch a TV show and go “Wow, that’s cool!” and move on with their lives. But readers, Lucasfilm won’t be releasing another official version The Mandalorian for another six monthswhen the first footage of the series debuted Star Wars 2019 Celebrations. The Mandalorian Quite a lot. When all you have to do is a single image of a character you know absolutely nothing about, it starts to drive you crazy. We tend to have a policy at io9 of trying not to use the same images over and over in our stories, so we try to mix it up any way we can: a super tight crop here, a wider crop there. It will push the mysterious Mando to the left or right of the frame. But there’s only so many times you can do that when all you have is one news photo from the series, and six months is pretty much an eternity in the world of entertainment journalism.

This incredibly silly detail immediately comes to mind when I think of this photo The Mandalorianrather than the long, strange six years we’ve spent in a galaxy far, far away since then, because that’s not a particularly unique problem for the show. Over the course of my ten-year writing career as a pop culture critic, I’ve encountered this particularly silly question over and over again. there was a time Rogue One It was revealed before any trailers were released that we could only use one official photo of Jyn and the crew of Yavin IV, but for the sake of variety, there are at least multiple characters for you to keep an eye on. We’re now experiencing it again with James Gunn superman The film’s unique shot of David Corenswet dressed as the Man of Tomorrow is all we have to say about the film until something comes out.

The arcane world of news images always creates situations like this, especially in an entertainment industry that likes to feed material to fans and control the hype process. I don’t know why The MandalorianThe first image is the one that impressed me the most, but as we prepare ourselves for the long wait to see what appears to be the final evolution of the series The Mandalorian and Grogu Next year’s film – which itself currently only has one image released in concept art form – will be interesting to look back on after all these years. Now, at least six years later, we have enough images of The Mandalorian and Grogu can keep us going for a while.
