“Girlfriends” singer cancels remaining shows with Hanson on doctor’s advice
The management team behind musician Matthew Sweet announces a GoFundMe campaign on his website Facebook On October 23, he revealed that he had suffered a stroke. Sweet first canceled a planned tour date in Toronto due to an unspecified illness on October 13, and then canceled all remaining tour stops until November 13 on the advice of his doctor.
As an avid anime fan, Sweet included the following clips space adventure cobra in the music video for his 1991 hit song “Girlfriend,” which reached the top ten on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. He also used the Lucky boy A music video for “I’ve Been Waiting”, another 1991 song from the animated series and film. Sweet listed his 10 favorite animated series, movies and OVAs in the booklet for the 1995 Japanese release album 100% fun.
As of this writing, Sweet has raised $363,172 from more than 6,500 people. Entertainment news source Deadline noted that the campaign has received donations from director Judd Apatow, musician John Mayer, REM guitarist Peter Buck, Danger! Host Ken Jennings and actor Jon Cryer. According to the GoFundMe page, the funds will be used to transport the singer from Canada to the United States for treatment at a specialized rehabilitation center, as well as subsequent treatment and recovery.
