The story of the novel takes place in Edo and tells the story of a frail but kind-hearted young man and the mysterious soul that protects him.

Okawa Takahiro (The unit director is hula, Evil Dead: Story Two seasons) is directing animation BN Films. Touko Machida (lucky star, Smiling on the runway) is overseeing the series script, Minagawa Akari (The supporting role of the perfect prince loves me?) is designing the character, and Ishizuka Rei (Ayakashi triangle, track children) is making music.
The first novel in the series was first published in 2001 and has since been followed by many sequel novels. The series has also inspired two live-action television series, comics, a radio play, a stage play, a stage musical, and a picture book. The online animation adapted from the novel will be broadcast in July 2021.
The novel’s circulation has exceeded 10 million copies.
