    Schleich launches first recyclable doll

Schleich has launched Cradle to Cradle certified bronze dolls, the first three recyclable dolls – a turtle, a lion and a bonobo – to be released following the company’s 2022 pledge to increase the company’s sustainability.

Cradle to Cradle certified bronze figures look the same as the brand’s standard figures but feature new materials. When children no longer play with the dolls, they can send them to the Schleich recycling program, which is now available in Germany and will be expanded to other core markets in 2027.

“We have been working hard for many years to find Cradle to Cradle certified recyclable materials,” said Dr. Philipp Hummel, Head of Sustainability at Schleich. “We encountered a number of challenges along the way: for example, the material needed to hold the paint on the statue. The toy had to meet many safety regulations and, of course, the statue needed to meet our own Schleich quality standards. We found a material that met all of these standards materials and can be fully returned to the cycle.

“Schleich statues are designed to bring joy to generations of children,” said Schleich CEO Stefan De Loecker. “This longevity is the most sustainable form of consumption and it also has sentimental value: our statues are more than just toys. They have been loyal friends and companions for many years. Children look after them and protect them. But we want to go Even further. If a character is eventually abandoned by its owner, it can take on a new shape without losing its high quality. We are proud to be the first brand to offer Cradle to Cradle certified toy figurines, we believe. This approach is the way forward.

By 2027, most of Schleich’s dolls will be Cradle to Cradle certified. Starting next year, Schleich will roll out more recyclable statues every year. The first three images are now available at us.schleich-s.com.
